the US was helped more by the Germans
2
I see others requesting a video on Russian Elebrus... That would be good. Can you also try to do one on Loongson's new architecture?
2
Strange you didn't note that the US also imported Nazi scientists and engineers which helped US industry after WW2.
2
@2drealms196 Not a smart strategy by the US. Canon and Nikon are working on bypassing the ASML EUV. In fact very little of the machine has US tech. And important piece yes - the light source - but that's the only thing right now that doesn't have a replacement. How long do people think it will take to find another light source?
2
@thecat6159 Most of Hong Kong territory was on a lease. A lease means you can't do certain things to the property without the owners consent.
2
@leliel2533 why chastise the KMT when Japan killed far more... sounds like hypocrisy
2
@birsiir8251 Nope. Google was banned in China only after it didn't comply with the laws. Google was there but still couldn't defeat Baidu. Same with Facebook and Twitter. They were allowed in China but then refused to obey the laws. But they were never as popular as Weibo or WeChat.
2
Sorry but this is indeed very biased. This has nothing to do with business but politics. The construction and running of these fabs are heavily subsidized. The US wants to provoke military action and have chips squirreled away in Arizona. TSMC and Taiwan are pawn.
2
@etbadaboum top tier Chinese schools are more selective than top tier US schools - fun fact.
2
Yup - cost and the ability to port programs are the two main things
2
Biden just announced "Buy American" for all government contracts. The EU of course pushes Airbus. it's common all over the world.
2
@nasmurph5453 it's constitution literally says it governs all of China including the mainland - lol. That's why they called it "One China Policy". Both sides claimed to be ruler of China.
2
Another example of why Lee Kwan Yew said Hong Kong had an easier life since it is part of China.
2
@4KSnSLifestyle The Chinese government won't wipe out Taiwan companies. Well if the DPP keeps being antagonistic maybe - but otherwise - no. The policy the past few decades is to let Taiwan companies have more privileges than anyone else and be treated as domestic companies. Killing UMC and TSMC would defeat the purpose of attempting peaceful reunification. Both have fabs on the mainland. As to the other other industries you listed - check the Taiwan Relations office. All of those industries have specific special privileges for Taiwan companies to invest in the mainland - especially in Fujian.
2
Yes they now try to soften their view on Japan because they are anti PRC... There is a lot of fake history in Taiwan - and Japan as I'm sure you know as a Korean.
2
@KCDisney1 Most of the Chinese that went to Jamaica were Hakka... Not all - but most
2
@kalebsok2947 Some Cantonese - mainly from Hong Kong.... But most were Hakka from Guangdong.
2
@genuinennessbefitting4734 China is effectively the same IQ as Japan - but 10 times the population... Think about it.
2
@kianono3209 Thanks... Yes that is what I thought. Not sure why he didn't bring it up. Huali is to SMIC what UMC is to TSMC. Not the most advanced but definitely significant in terms of output
2
@nvaravind5394 Here you go... https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/commencement-of-construction-of-hua-hongs-newest-base-for-ic-research-development-and-manufacturing-300686170.html
2
there are far more Chinese in NYC than LA
2
yeah many of the SMIC employees are from TSMC. they saw which way things were going. TSMC made the right choice.
2
@Kiyoone Yup. Cadence and Synopsis both invested in Chinese EDA start ups. They have sense.
2
But that makes me wonder why Singapore didn't invest into them. Singapore is the top source of FDI into China...
1
No it's because Koreans are under no delusion.
1
@muic4880 But funny thing is South Korea was a military dictatorship just like the KMT - until the 1980's. Everyone pretends South Korea became a democracy in in the 1950's. It wasn't. they whitewash the history just like they whitewash colonial Japanese rule
1
@Bunnyroo7 But the funny thing is the people on Taiwan were upset the Qing gave up the island to Japan and attempted to form the Republic of Formosa rather than be a Japanese colony. The Japanese of course eliminated all of those people - and not with a tea ceremony.
1
@OtakuSanel that is laughable. Japans whole semiconductor industry was squeezed by the US
1
The ironic thing is the US complains about the trade gap - but the US doesn't want to sell China what China really wants. So on top of not closing the trade gap - they are forcing China to develop their own tech - which will eat into US company market shares.
1
The Mythbuster Many don't know TSMC uses certain tools from AMEC on the mainland now on the 5nm process.
1
@v.d.2738 many confederates in the South of the US look fondly on their old way of life too.... they even made a movie out of it called "gone with the wind". makes sense that he was carousing with those fond of Japanese occupation who were now living in the west.
1
Well considering the US got to be a world power by robbery and then slavery and then theft of IP - it's called "reaping what you sow"
1
@ResidualSelfImage not exactly... Japan had already taken Taiwan from China in the 1890's.
1
@Erik-rp1hi false... DUV's can make 7nm. The US can't stop ASML from selling DUV's.
1
@dabdoube92 Huawei...
1
yes and that's why there was revolution
1
@ideastshoa6383 None of the other places Japan colonized or attempted to things Japan were "good" colonists
1
@ps3301 cut those numbers by 1/3.... And there is no need to replace ARM...
1
I'm sure I will get hate mail - but it should be clear that India is better at services than manufacturing in almost all sectors.
1
like who? FDI keeps pouring in increasing numbers... this is a semi separate company.
1
@MagSnapShots good points
1
but it is...
1
@raymondo737 so tell me why all wheels are round and why all planes behave like birds... there is your answer as to why they use Linux
1
why not? he would have been pro Blue.
1
The mainland opening up changed the paradigm. Hong Kong (and Taiwan) absorbed much of the talent from the Mainland. But once the economy opened up - people didn't need to leave as much
1
They left out the Japanese supplying opium from Taiwan too
1
DUV's can make 7nm... And ASML has sold them to SMIC
1
Xtacking is their own proprietary tech... Lazy try
1
@indianatarzan8001 Just just became a middle income country per capita in 2018. So it was absolutely BY THE RULES OF THE WTO a developing country. China didn't write the rules - so don't be made China played the game and won.
1
@IpSyCo No... The advanced chips are made on Taiwan and in South Korea. And Mainland China makes more chips than the US overall now.
