Sorry to disappoint you and everyone else in this thread but Mat didn't jump the 2nd start. Pause the video before Andy starts lowering his arms, then use the "." on your keyboard to fastforward frame by frame and you'll see that when Mat started moving, Andy's arms were already coming down. He also didn't jump the 3rd start like some people are saying.

Well, I can say for sure that Carwow is not the only channel to include bikes in drag races. The OFFICIALLY GASSED channel does that all the time but, unlike this channel, they usually feature amateur riders.
4
@mancuinist - I don't think that's the reason because 8 minutes is not enough time to get a feel for the impact of a thumbnail. Moreover, sometimes they change it 3 or 4 times in an hour.
4
1:05 - "Vauxhall designs some really good looking cars these days"- Lol, that would be true if it was designed by them! Vauxhall is just a badge these days.

Pors-CHE! Pors-CHE! Pors-CHE! Pors-CHE! Pors-CHE! Pors-CHE! Pors-CHE! Pors-CHE! Pors-CHE! Pors-CHE!

No surprises here, every MotoGP race start is a drag race to the first turn, so every rider is a drag racing expert. :D
3
@hsvr - It can't be because in the previous videos at this track the grass wasn't as tall as it is in this video. The 1/4 mile cones were always visible and in this one we can hardly see one cone, let alone both of them.
3
@pjay3028 - The rules are "go when the arms start to come down" but in all fairness, there shouldn't be a need to say this because when they replay the starts in slow motion to prove that Mat didn't jump the starts when he goes just as the hands start to come down, should be a dead giveaway of what the rules are. 🙂
3
1:29 - It's "a lot", not "alot". The editor needs to go back to school.
3
*their 😉
3
I'd like to see if you say the same when you have to go to the gas station twice or three times more than a regular estate for the same amount of kms...
3
You do know that they're both from the same brand, don't you?
3
@vanderz1012 - Nor anywhere else in Europe and rightly so because there's no need for it.
3
Wow, I've never seen Mat doing 3 out of 3 jumps starts! No wonder the braking test panned out the way it did: Mathieu was way behind everyone else and Mat was way in front of everyone when they reached the line (13:11). The results would've been very different if they were levelled.
3
13:15 - The first 5 cars were all levelled when they crossed the line, the two Rovers were one car length behind and the G-Wagon was one car length behind the Rovers. You can't get accurate results when people don't play by the rules. 👎
3
21:28 - Daniel jumped the start on this one. Where's the stewards' control when you need it?
3
I was surprised when Mat didn't mention the usual BMW's erratic launch mode. Maybe he let Yanni drive it thinking he could win because of that but he ended up shooting himself in the foot. :text-green-game-over:
3
Daniel jumped the first start by the skin of his teeth. The M40d did reasonably well considering all the disadvantages of being a station wagon and heavier but when it came to showing how to use torque properly...
3
4:08 - Truer words have never been spoken. ;D
3
Wow, no changes in the thumbnail in 24h? Are you guys ok?
3
@tedfromyt6523 - Did the engine or the turbos blow up? No. Did the transmission give up the ghost? No. Did some ECU-related problem prevent the car from being fast? No. It just had a cracked GPS antenna. I wouldn't call that "unreliable".
3
Wow, Mat, I would expect a US american ("cough, cough" Doug DeMur...) to not understand what those symbols mean but you, an experienced british motor journalist? The port that says USB is for data connection and the other two USB ports are for charging. Who would've thought that a symbol with a lightning inside a battery would mean "charging", huh? 🤦♂
2
Ah, the epitome of inefficiency: so much displacement but so little power. 😂
2
@spicysnowman8886 - Exactly, more like a gravel rally stage or something similar.
2
Funny stats: the RS3 was beaten by a car with 34hp more and by a car with 30hp less. : )
2
@Silverbullet767 - It reminds me of the sound of the plastic flaps that I used to hang between the spokes of my bicycle's wheels when I was a kid. 😆
2
15:52 - You were 1 car length behind Mat and Yanni when they crossed the line, Jamie. It's too easy when you cheat.
2
Not in Europe.
2
Order of crossing the line in the brake test: 1- Mat, by more than half a car length in front of the others 2- Nick, a little ahead of Rory 3- Rory, with the whole front of the Porsche ahead of Sam 4- Sam, behind everyone else With this discrepancy it's impossible to get any credible results or conclusions as to which one brakes better.
2
1:09 - Rewaltow! 🤣
2
3:44 - No Mat, you didn't jump the 3rd start but you jumped this one.
2
Ok, I know that Pokestar was just a typo because the "k" is right next to the "l" but it's funny nonetheless. 😄
2
Judging by the colour of that G63, I think Connor lent his wife's car, not his.
2
7:06 - More like "another knife to this taser fight" because that new C63 is all about electricity. Without the electric power it wouldn't stand a chance against the other two "knifes" that have the same engine.
2
I don't think I like the route these drags races are taking... They have gone to the point where it's not funny anymore.
2
The ICE noises the IONIQ makes remind me of the sounds in the old 8bit games. 😆
2
@c.hustle7790 - No doubt about that but not the HEAVIEST in the dramatic way Mat put it.
2
The part where Rory said "when I put together these drag races" really went over your head, didn't it? 😂

Macron enters the chat

I drove a 1997 Opel Astra Caravan between 2005 and 2018. Never had any issues with the brakes and I've never heard anything about any recalls. Could it have been a problem exclusive to the Vauxhall "version"?
2
@williams7273 - "Shit" in French is "merde". The pronounciation of MR2 in French would sound like "emmerdeur", which means "annoying, pesky, irritating", etc. You get the point. : )
2
Who else came here from Jamie's "What Really Happened At Carwow..." video? 😀
2
0:37 - Mat: "It has a 3.0L, flat six, twin turbo" 0:56 - Also Mat: "It has got the same 3.0L, twin turbo, straight six" So, the same ≠ the same. 😆
2
@rongill1967 - Why? Because they weren't designed for the needs of a street car, racing brakes were/are designed for completely different scenarios. The more potent brakes of a modern street car would be useless in rallying.
2
Rewalto? You'd think that an experienced auto journalist like Mat would know by now how to pronounce Revuelto but apparently not.🙄 You're losing 0-1 to Yanni, Mat, his pronunciation was spot on.
2
3:39 - No one else does that because they're all wrong and Renault is right. I had a '95 Renault Laguna and the audio controls were already like that. They stick with what their loyal customers are already used to. 11:30 - Obviously they can't be bothered to produce special RHD cars just for a few markets. That's not how car manufacturing works and you should know that by now. It seems like you couldn't find enough annoying features to make five and you're just nitpicking.
2
5:03 - ANYTHING looks better than the front of new BMWs, Mat!
2
I haven't watched the whole video yet but I'm betting the brake test will be the highlight of it. 😂 Edit: I won the bet. 😄
2
So, BMW called and demanded that you remove their car from the thumbnail, now I'm waiting to see how long the "smoking" Renault will be there...
2
5:01 - Timmy jumped the 2nd start.
