  1. Fortunately, so far this year we (Portugal) have not been affected by this "Hell Niño", either in terms of temperatures or wildfires (me knocks on wood). We've been having some wildfires but they have been lasting only a few hours. Today (27/7) there was one caused by a car that caught fire while towing a caravan on the A2 motorway near the Algarve (southern region) and the fire spread to the countryside near the motorway, destroying 20 behives nearby. Speaking of the US heatwave, I saw on the news that the highest water temperature ever, 38ºC (~100ºF), was recorded in Florida. I can only imagine the damage it caused to the ocean life...
