My grandfather was from Brazhyntsi, a farming community west of Kyiv. The Bolsheviks took everything and they were starving to death. Only my grandfather made it out to the US. But to be a citizen, he was required to return to Europe & fight in WWI in the trenches where he was gassed. He had trouble with his legs & walking the rest of his life. But he would go for long walks every morning, & never a complaint. A strong & stubborn people.

@osric1730 that was awesome. Thank you. I was so young when my grandpa died. Too young to know what he had gone through. My own mother didn’t talk of it. It was Baba’s next door neighbor that told us details much, much later.
