@Joomluh12 I think the anti-cheats case is more about they making a fricking ring-0 level program and installing it in your PC to play a game, more than it being a "rootkit" in and on itself. A vulnerability in an anti-cheat could already be a big problem, and it is extremely invasive. Obviously sensationalism is a thing as well, but alas it is not all shine and flowers on the other side.

@hanifarroisimukhlis5989 An "anti-malware" will not prevent a hacker from ruining my game, it will prevent the hacker from ruining my OS, and I usually only keep the operating system default one (like Windows Server). It is obviously non-comparable both in purpose and scope. And it is also a more trustworthy choice, with an anti-malware you are trading the possibility of it having a vulnerability to the gain of blocking thousands of known malwares that can infect your system and do bad things to it as a whole. With an anti-cheat, now you can "play a multiplayer game" without being banned by petty companies by putting an invasive piece of software in the most vulnerable layer of your system.
