  55.  @conorstewart2214  > [Why shouldn’t we take steps to help and protect people with disabilities to stop them from becoming totally outcast from society and left to fend for themselves through no fault of their own?] This is more of my problem here. There is this seemingly impossible to fix confusion in peoples minds, caused by the modern notion of the state as being somewhat responsible for the common good and being the "representative of people", that if you don't prohibit something by the absolute force of the law then you are not "taking steps to prevent a problem". In reality, making a law is not solving any problem, laws can only punish people when they exhibit specific behaviors, they cannot teach them their behaviors are wrong, they cannot lead to a more moral society. I am not saying we should discriminate against this man, neither that the people that discriminate should go unpunished, but that creating a law to do this or using the force to impose this view on people is not what we should do to solve the problem. > [Do you really want to live in a society where it is every man for themselves and no one has any compassion or empathy for anyone else?] See? You related my "having a law for this is a problem" to "you want to live in a society without compassion or empathy", how am I supposed to answer you when your worldview is already stablished around the fact that if we don't try forcing people to be moral by arresting them or suing them we are being imoral ourselves? Forcing people to accept others is not compassion nor empathy, there is not a single fraction of morality when you do what you do because there is a law preventing you to do otherwise. This don't mean I'm saying "we should do nothing", but until this first part is sorted out everything I will say here will sound like an abomination to you.
