  4. @Chris Fisher Are you conflating the two different types of doctors? Yeah, MDs and PhDs both bestow the title of Doctor on people. One does not belittle the other. I don't believe any of your first-line responder relatives take issue this. I was also responding to the nonsense in the OP that the president's spouse loses that title.

  5. @Chris Fisher Who is talking about an English teacher? If your dad has a doctorate, he has a right to be referred to as doctor. It's his choice to not use it. It sounds like you are belittling other people's PhDs, and I have been to medical school, so I do know how much work goes in. Getting a PhD can take several years in total from the start of university, as does an MBBS, or equivalent degree.
