  1. A number of them were deists. That's when you believe in the existence of a deity or other force (or more than one), but not the teachings of organized religion. In other words, there is a god, somewhere, they might not have even contacted Earth but they exist in some form. Just not the Christian one. Fun fact: Neil Armstrong was a deist too.
