You want to treat guns and cars the same. Okay fine. Ban unlicensed carry outside of your own private property with the possible exception of IMMEDIATE self defense. In order to carry in public, you should be required to carry a license with a photo ID at all times, just like when driving a car. This license will require mandatory competence display issued by a government agency akin to the DMV, and will require regular renewal every few years. Unlicensed carry will result in a 200 dollar fine. There, now guns will be treated like a car. Now, watch the pro-"freedom" start screaming bloody murder.

@jayaramBOT No, under federal law, felons and domestic abusers are not allowed to possess or purchase firearms, with restoration of this right being in the hands of the states to determine on a state by state basis. By the way, it's the 5th Amendment that is ruled as allowing the government to remove the rights of criminals.

@jayaramBOT The 5th amdnement says that the government cannot take away your life, liberty, or property without due process of law. This is read by many people as saying that these can be removed with due process. If you don't think that it's constitutional and really want felons to have guns, you're welcome to try and challenge it. Just be aware that you will be seen as advocating that convicted murderers, child molesters, bank robbers, rapists, drug dealers, terrorists, and gang members be allowed to kill more people.
