Yes indeed, why lie? Why lie when the model used by scholars prior to Copernicus was the Ptolemaic model of the 2nd century, which had a SPHERICAL geocentric Earth? Or are you saying that it should be based on what the majority of the civilization thinks? Because nobody cares what Bob the Illiterate Peasant that can't even read his own name thinks. Columbus wasn't ridiculed because people thought the Earth was flat. He was ridiculed because he was an idiot that completely underestimated the distance and had he not discovered land completely by accident, would have run out of supplies and died at seat thousands of miles away from where he wanted to be. The only reason anybody let him even attempt it was because the queen had a raging ladyboner for him.

On the Flat Earth map, Australia is larger than Russia....
4
@mypath4healthyliving533 Squaaaawk. Eric Dubay, Eric Dubay, Squaaaawk. Eric Dubay's been debunked repeatedly for years, and years, and years, but his followers blindly accepted that every word out of his mouth must be true. Go ask him why he continues to use Bart Sibrel's "faking the distance to the moon" more than ten years after Sibrel got caught lying about his so-called "proof" and editing out portions of it that disproved him. Bet he instantly bans you.
4
It doesn't make sense on a Flat Earth either. Even without the Earth being round, there are plenty of places that wouldn't be able to see it anyways because they're blocked by mountains and only a few people would see it because the "limits of human vision" would cause Jesus to set into the horizon for anybody more than a few miles away.
4
@robertpattinson2065 And yet you people have repeatedly been shown not using the formulas you're supposedly "disproving" correctly, which invalidates your tests does it not? Here's a brain teaser for you. Why does the Earth have TWO celestial poles? Not only is it impossible for a spinning dome to have stars circle any location except the center, this also results in objects magically 20,000 miles apart in opposite directions at the same time when drawn on YOUR map.
4
@aetheriusrex ..... you do realize that the gas will also expand to fill a container, right? Are you able to explain why the atmosphere DOESN'T expand to fill your dome? Can you explain what force prevents the very laws of thermodynamics you are trying to invoke from equalizing pressure inside your container and why there's a near-empty void hundreds or thousands of miles below the supposed height of your container?
4
Have you ever looked up what Von Braun's beliefs when he was ALIVE were? He spent 20 years before trying to marry religion and science, criticizing those who studied either one while rejecting the other, and frequently talking about using space travel to explore God's creation. It's pretty obvious from his other quotes that he means firmament metaphorically to refer to the STARS AND UNIVERSE, not a physical dome. But you wouldn't have done that research, would you? You just take the one comment as proof that you're "correct" and disrespect everything else he believed in.
3
Neither math nor science uses the word "theory" to mean "unproven." If the concept that words can have multiple meanings in different contexts is so alien to you, you might want to invest in this thing called a "dictionary".
3
That won't do anything. Conspiracy theorists immediately label any traitors as "bought" or "threatened".
3
Not Another Stupid Acronym.
3
It's ironic, the people that talk about "scientism" are the same people that think that "real science" involves sticking your fingers in your ears and going "La la la I can't hear you" like a five year old when confronted with recorded observations that directly disprove their own model.
3
That's a Mercator map. It's a projection that displays latitude and longitude as a grid as opposed to a sphere and causes objects near the poles to balloon in size.
3
@therealzilch I've heard conspiracy theorists claiming the election was rigged to prevent Trump from revealing the fake moon landing.
2
Hea'ds up, "horizontal" means "of the horizon" which means "boundary". The Flat meaning is a bastardized slang that overtook the original meaning.
2
@AceDiCaprio Germ Theory and Cell Theory are both accepted as true through rigorous testing and observavtion (nothing in science is ever definitively "proven). The Theory of Plate Tectonics has overwhelming evidence. Set Theory, Number Theory, and Graph Theory are collections of math rules containing both proven facts and unproven hypotheses. Like I said. Dictionary. Use it.
2
@AceDiCaprio There is no proof in science. Science only accepts things as "accepted" until a better solution comes along, no matter how many millions of piece of evidence it has, because it is built to contrast religion, which states "This is how things are" and refuses to budge no matter how much evidence is against it. But since you insist, we can see the cells under a microscope and can interact with them via various means. There, Cell Theory "proven".
2
@AceDiCaprio Just making sure, you do realize that he says that it's pear-shaped by less than 50 miles, right? That's ONE PERCENT of the earth's diameter. You aren't going to see that in a picture unless you are counting individual pixels.
2
Falsifying your maps hurts you economically. Lying about the size or shape of your map will hurt your ability to plan, build, and utilize your trade routes.
2
Genesis 1-29 "And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food." There you have it, straight from God himself, the fruit of the highly poisonous manchineel tree is edible despite causing potentially fatal chemical burns. After all, it's in the Bible, therefore it must be true.
2
A plane wouldn't be able to leave the stratosphere no matter how hard it tried. Planes and helicopters have a maximum altitude they can reach because the air will become too thin to support them, so it would eventually reach an altitude that it can't pass and coast along around it,. By the way, you realize that this maximum altitude DISPROVES Flat Earth, right? If the Earth were flat and covered in a dome, the air wouldn't get thinner with altitude. It would immediately expand to fill the dome at an even pressure like it would any other container.
2
..... then why would NASA allow the teacher to go in the first place?
2
Okay, and? Every bay, and inlet, and peninsula adds to the coastline.
2
God straight-up lies in Genesis 1-29..
2
@lukesterling870 Before Copernicus, scholars used Ptolemy's model as described in the Almagest, which used a SPHERICAL geocentric Earth. The claim that "Copernicus started the globe model" is horseshit.
2
Most the ones saying a "flat unmoving Earth" are referring to simplifications of variables because the factors are either irrelevant, of only minor relevance, or would complicate the equations to the point of being difficult to achieve an easy demonstration of your point. If you read them, they ALSO talk about things such as "rigid airplanes of constant mass" - which is outright false as planes are NOT rigid as they are designed to flex and NOT constant masses as they lose mass as they expend fuel. So why, then, are those secret documents making false claims in some cases in the SAME SENTENCE as the "flat Earth"?
2
@dumbdoms Flat Earth requires pretending that half the planet does not exist or matter to avoid a paradox where the stars in the Southern Hemisphere are multiple places at the same time. You're going to need a very persuasive argument, and probably enough alcohol to down an elephant.
2
And you know this..... how? Because it was written by people claiming to have VISIONS and DREAMS of things that no mortal has ever witnessed.
2
So fun fact. Are you aware that Dubay's lighthouse claims in his 200 Proofs are UNTESTED by any living person? You know how we know this? One of the lighthouses in question was partially torn down almost 150 years ago.
2
Just so that you're aware, Bart Sibrel, the hoaxer who "found" that "smoking gun", GOT CAUGHT blatantly lying and editing out portions of his video that are physically impossible to perform with the trick he claims he was used because he was stupid enough to think that nobody would check his version VS NASA's.
2
Um....... a rail gun shoots in an arc, not a straight line. All projectile weapons are physically incapable of shooting in a straight line as the projectile, whether it's an arrow, bullet, or metal slug, will fall in midair at a rate of 9.8 m/s^2. Speed and angle are what determine how far it gets before it hits the ground. Don't go "There's some since for ya" when you haven't taken a science course. There's no possible way you would have passed freshman physics without bribing the teacher.
2
@hunzoldworld It takes literally 30 seconds to find videos where people "bring back' boats, try and zoom in on even farther boats whose sails are sticking out of the water, and FAIL to bring it back no matter how far you zoom.
2
@hunzoldworld Also, if the reply contained links, Youtube automatically marks them as spam fairly often. This is almost guaranteed if you try and link an outside website.
2
Just as a head's up, the "Columbus proved the Earth was round" is something that's not actually told or taught outside of media for children. It's about as real as Washington cutting down the cherry tree.
2
But many, many Flat Earthers are hyper-Christian bible thumping fundamentalists. Are conservatives always so inherently dishonest that they have to lie and claim that anything they don't personally believe is liberal and leftist even when just as many, if not more people on your own side are guilty? Because I've seen this a lot.
2
That's hilarious considering that Flat Earth literally requires sticking your fingers in your ears and chanting "La la la I can't hear you" like a five year old when confronted with anything outside of your master's pre-scripted talking points, such as the FACT that the observed and recorded motion of the stars in the Southern Hemisphere, when drawn on YOUR map, results in the same objects being MAGICALLY located 20,000 miles apart in opposite directions at the same time. Flat Earth isn't science. Flat Earth IS "scientism."
2
That's funny, considering that many of them are bible thumpers and religious fundamentalists are typically conservative. Do conservatives simply LIE and claim that anything they don't personally agree with is "liberal"? Because I seem to see that a lot.
1
Why not? We KNOW that it's possible for a liquid to be at rest on a ball given the proper circumstances because we have liquids that stick to magnets.
1
Go to your kitchen and get something round, like an apple or orange. Take a knife and carve a groove into it, getting deeper the further you go. That's your river. Now, notice how no matter what way you turn your apple, the groove always goes into the apple and never comes out of it? That's the difference between North vs Up. Into the apple is down. Out of the apple is up.
1
Gleason's map is NOT accurate. It has massive amounts of horizontal stretching in the Southern Hemisphere to the point that Australia is double its actual size.
1
@AceDiCaprio And yet outside of 3-4 specific examples (ones admitted to be art or edited even), if your experts were handed one of the many, many pictures of the Earth completely at random, they wouldn't be able to prove it was photoshop. Not great evidence. What would be the point of a 24/7 satellite feed? Neither the rotation nor the weather changes fast enough to see without a time lapse; it'd literally be like sticking your head down on the lawn and expecting to see the grass growing. Realistically, you'd get the same information taking still photographs every 10-15 minutes with far less resources needed (which is what they do). Besides, the ISS live streams for hours all the time. You people call that "fake" too so it's not like a 24/7 satellite would change that. Are you referring to the EPIC clip from a few years ago? There's clouds everywhere on it, so I'm going to have to call you out on lying.
1
I have a serious question. Why does Flat Earth 'perspective" arbitrarily choose when it does and doesn't apply purely out of convenience without any adherence to consistent rules?
1
Why can't it? We KNOW that liquids can stick to spinning balls because have liquids (made from water) that stick to magnets. Your tennis ball just doesn't have enough mass and you people deliberately ignore scale. After all, shouldn't an object one millionth of the size also have one millionth the effect? Nah, it needs to have the same amount of sticking power!
1
You're refering to the claim that he had an "unexplored continent the size of the US past the South Pole, right?" The half of Antarctica opposite the South Pole from his starting location is about 2/3 the size of the continental United States.
1
First of all, you do realize that the curve of a surface that size would cause a tilt of less than one degree, right? If your eyes are sharp enough to tell one degree of change from hundreds or thousands of feet away, perhaps you should join the X-Men because you are clearly a mutant. Second, the word horizon has nothing whatsoever to do with flat. It means "boundary". The flat meaning of horizontal is a SECONDARY meaning that that overtook its original one of "of the horizon." We have an entire field of anthropology dedicated to the origin and history of words. It's called "etymology". Maybe you should look it up some time.
1
The flag has a rod through the top holding it out. It only actually "waves" after being handled.
1
Um..... that document says, in the same sentence, that it is for a "rigid aircraft of constant mass". Aircraft are not constant mass. They lose mass as they expend fuel. So your "proof" is the same sentence where NASA makes a claim that is flat-out false.
1
Um....does Buddhism actually believe in an unlimited Earth? I thought the finite or infinite size of the Earth was in Buddha's unanswered questions.
1
@johnsmith-zv8ws REAL perspective doesn't cause the bottom of objects to shrink to 1/1000th of the size of the other half with a cut so clean it could be made with a knife. it causes the ENTIRE PENNY to shrink roughly uniformly into a point. Care to explain how this happens with the sun? I know that your Flat Earth masters would never in a million years publicly admit this, but according to basic trigonometry, an object 3,000 miles high (as they claim that it is) would need be be: 3000/tan(5)=~34,000 miles away to get within five degrees above a flat surface. I'm curious as to how that works since that's about 3x the distance between the North Pole and your ice wall.
1
So. GreaterSapien I believe it was has a video where he takes a piece of form core board and uses it to connect cities on a desktop globe. Turns out that some of those "no sense" flight paths are almost a straight line. Now... why has your side never done that test of themselves? Hmmm...
1
Just as a reminder, we do have a word for a shape where every point is an equal "height" from the center. It's called a "circle" or a "sphere".
1
@johnking1978 Ever looked up how long the shoreline of the United States is? about 70K miles longer than the general coastline.
1
The place where all the lost socks go.
1
No it doesn't. Nasa means "lift up", an albeit rather appropriate name. Deception is Nasha, a similar word. How does this prove anything? NASA isn't even the original name; it was originally NACA, the government's WWI-era aeronautics research organization, and they changed the name when space flight became an issue. Besides, organizations have unintended acronyms all the time. My favorite was one of those senior citizen emergency response centers whose initials were D.O.A (dead on arrival). Why would anybody in their right mind reveal their secret in such a manner that COMPLETE OUTSIDERS would figure it out anyways? Now you have an even bigger conspiracy as to why the Jewish community at large doesn't simply blab, especially if any of their members convert to other religions. Don't believe a word the anti-NASA people say either. The Apollo hoaxers are so shady that their leaders (the ones who have made tens of thousands of dollars in merchandise sales off the so-called hoax) have been CAUGHT RED-HANDED manipulating their footage to remove portions of the original that flat-out disproved them.
1
@floydx492 ..... but one degree of tilt on a ball the size of the Earth is almost 70 miles.
1
And yet conspiracy theorists tend to believe anything they see on the internet as long as it makes the government look evil.
1
@jandrost4664 The Bible is not proof. How do you KNOW that anything in it actually true? You aren't the only religion claiming their texts to be divinely inspired.
1
...... why would they talk about something NASA never said? That's YOUR SIDE's words, not theirs.
1
Just remember: the worst thing about America is that stupid people are allowed to vote.
1
Okay, and how do we know that anything in the Bible actually happened?
1
@alexb9428 You mean the guy that can't understand the problems his own argument has against his own model? Perhaps you can give him a hand and answer for him. Why does the gas in the atmosphere not expand to fill the container, violating the very same "laws of thermodynamics" he's trying to use?
1
Just as a reminder, we already know for a fact that liquid can stick to the sides and bottoms of objects in the presence of a force capable of attracting it because we have liquids that stick to magnets.
1
The sun isn't in the clouds. It's so bright that it's bleeding over the thinner parts in the camera in those videos. I would like to point out, by the way, that the highest clouds (which are not the type in those videos) are measured at about 50 miles high. 50 miles by 3,500 miles - the approximate distance between London and the equator, places the sun at ~0.82 degrees above the horizon from the largest city in Europe at noon on the equinox. On the other hand, if the clouds were 3,000 miles high (the distance Flat Earthers normally claim the sun is), then the same clouds would be visible for thousands of miles in every direction just like the sun is so you're wrong either way.
1
Then why do Flat Earthers literally worship Eric Dubay like he's the next messiah?
1
@nautilus3074 Because they do? I was commenting on the OP's comment that "Flat Earth doesn't have leaders" when it's pure horseshit.
1
So fun fact.... the Flat Earthers have been caught cropping those photographs to hide the curve
1
If Flat Earthers could do the math, they wouldn't be Flat Earthers.
1
...... but a large percentage of Flat Earthers are Bible-thumpers. Aren't the ultra-religious usually Republican?
1
Except that in physics, an object launched from a moving object travels at the COMBINED speeds. This has been observed and proven countless times, and if it weren't the case, you would be arrested for having loose objects on that airplane for endangering everybody onboard because the instant they left your hand, they would appear to rocket "backwards" as the plane moved at 500 MPH beneath them.
1
@Alan-nq5xg ..... the spinning of the Earth in the poster's comment? The Flat Earth argument is that the movement of the ground would affect the flights of airplanes flying above it.
1
Just as a reminder, anybody that tells you that the Earth is on pillars because that's what the Bible says is lying. The Bible clearly states, in the book of Job, that it hangs from nothing (in other words, it's floating in midair without anything holding it up. An object that is resting on something beneath it doesn't hang.) So, the Bible contradicts the Bible on this.
1
@nautilus3074 Sausage Earth is blasphemy. The one true shape is a loaf of scrapple.
1
