@kebman You actually do end up with more money at the end of the day. Certain portions of your income are not taxable (housing allowance, BAS (groceries), you can shop tax free for absolutely everything, medical and dental and optical are 100% free, fancy fitness centers are free, golf is extraordinarily cheap, the movie theater is free and on and on.... And then you get all the VA benefits when you get out.

I'm a disabled veteran and honestly, I feel that my military service has been a gift that just keeps on giving. It's not for everybody, though. (I got commissioned after I was already a medical doctor, so it was definitely something that many people considered unusual and dangerous in a lot of ways)

@ts2371 Military Service? Be serious, please. I didn't notice anyone making any special concessions for me as an officer.
