  1. You are absolute correct that very few people understand gold, including you. You are engaging in the fallacy of incomplete evidence, by only looking at a brief period when gold went up. You must look at the price of gold over a much longer period to have an accurate idea of what you are doing. Saying that gold outperformed everything else is "lying with statistics" because you are using statistical data in a very biased way. Read Darrell Huff's book.
