@TheImperatorKnight Like you said in the monologue, Spain was... complicated. Few of the actors lined up with our modern categorization of ideology or motive.

Spain never really mobilized for war. This was partially from the cultural shock in the aftermath of the civil war, but also because Franco and the generals never really ginned up the populace and economy for it. Spanish companies built hundreds of thousands of small arms for the French in WWI. Of course they were doing so with capital (paid) by Allied financial interests. I donno where they would have gotten the money from, and they had no industry to build motor transport, much less armor and aircraft, but the Spanish could have easily stood up an infantry corps to take Gibraltar and Morrocco and Algeria. Especially if they had help from the Germans. The Vichy French were not a factor. Hitler could have ceeded N. Africa to Spain and threatened to burn Paris if the French complained about it. With Gibralter secured, the British would find it very hard to support Egypt with supplies and interdict Italian, German, and now Spanish shipping. If Spain joined the Axis, more Latin American countries might have remained neutral or even kept trade open. Probably wouldn't have changed the outcome any but would have made the butcher's bill higher.

@mikefay5698 So you're the kind of person who think the side of the apple that they can see is the only part that exists?

@mikefay5698 Do you know what the biggest cost to any business is? Labor. You know, paying the proletariat. So after paying for materials, facilities, the cost of borrowing money ( you know "Capitalism"), and paying off the real parasites, The State's taxes, the real sliver of a bit of apple is what is left to the owners of the company. So take your pills.

@mikefay5698 Thats not how it works. That isn't even how democratic capitalism is supposed to work because per capita GDP and spending power, and thus macro economic power is greater when the "proletariat" has disposable/investment income. The reason why we don't is because the system has been rigged to not just favor the "bourgeoisie" (I like using Marx's silly old terms too), but by the politicians and apparatchiks of The State, who, for their own benefit (accumulation of power), are maximizing the defects of capitalism (concentration of wealth) while minimizing its benefits (hamstringing innovation with regulation). Socialism isn't the answer either because that just concentrates wealth and power in the hands of those who control The State. Different but the same kind of authoritarianism.

@mikefay5698 is economically illiterate.

@mikefay5698 And you can ask them also about Socialism and how that works out. It doesn't. No matter how many times it has been tried, it always fails when collectivism moves beyond the small-scale commune. All you are expressing is envy of the wealthy, which is typical of socialists. Probably because you are bitter about what you have (not) done with your life.
