Comments by "James the Other One" (@jamestheotherone742) on "Why didn't Hitler go through Turkey to get the Caucasus Oil?" video.
Lets see... Stalin was quite resistant to the notion of a German betrayal, so he might well have bought just about any excuse for a Turkish invasion, like... they were opening up a Eastern front against the English Mid-East to squeeze the N. African campaign (which, would not have been a lie). Heck, Stalin might have even wanted to redo the "Polish partnership", and grab a chunk of Eastern Anatolia. Remember the Russians and Turks were/are regional rivals and in no way friends. Stalin would have much preferred the Germans to control the Bosporus. But that was never really in Hitler's strategic vision. To his way of thinking he probably considered Turkey to still be the immovable Ottoman stone of all of the European history he and his generals knew. But they really should have pressured the Turks to come in on the Axis side more. It would have opened up all kinds of strategic options without the costs of outright invading them.
