@hendrikvanleeuwen9110 He's not joking. He just knows what he is talking about. Being "in" Stalingrad extended both the supply lines AND the German front that had to be maintained against constant Soviet pressure, making encirclement that much more likely. Being "in" what was left of the city provided no shelter protection other than lots a material with which to build bunkers and fighting positions with. Both the Northern and central army groups weathered the Russian winters "just fine", as in it all sucked equally.
