  1. No. TIK is correct, Courland wasn't evacuated on that plan because there weren't enough assets that could be devoted to it. The weather wasn't a factor.

  2. I don't see the contradiction that TIK points out. Donitz places a requirement of all German naval and air assets be dedicated to the sea-lift operation for it to be successful. This would not only have included blocking Soviet interdiction and preventing bombardment of the ports, but also engineering work on the ports. That was not practical, given what else was going on on other fronts and theaters, so his second quote is true. There weren't the assets, so it wasn't possible to extricate all German forces from Courland, so they did as much as they could as everything fell apart.

  5. The Soviet intent was always to keep them bottled up and out of the way of the main strategic objective (Berlin). The defense only "worked" because the Soviets didn't try to take them. Their task was to prevent breakout by land.

  6. ​ @LaughingSkull0808  The German forces within the pocket were still formidable. Bagramyan did not have the forces to do more than keep up a steady pressure on the German lines. If he could have taken Liepaja, he would have.
