  1. asif naseri BMW doesn't make many bad cars (!), and the 1-series is one of the best. I have a 2013 128i coupe with a 6MT, <13K miles and very few options (18" wheels, leather and metallic paint). I LOVE the fact that "the tech is outdated." I don't drive a car to bury my brain in electronics! It is SO classic, is such good quality and has really good performance, without being obsessed with massive power (it's got plenty). I'm really glad to have it!

  3. you could, but you don't have to. There's always last year's model, or you could wait for next year's, which will no doubt be prettier! BMWs, more than most makes, have always been reliably good-looking. BMW NEVER had this kind of problem before...

  4. I'd LOVE to have one with the folding hardtop. I recently purchased a minty-mint, green, 1997 M-edition NA (after having owned a black/black '94 for 11 years, 11 years ago), and am already considering a second, which could be one of these. I saw a white one like this but with the folding hardtop... and "appreciate it for what it is." I don't care if it falls behind the others slightly in terms of numbers. I'm sure it feels just like a Miata to drive! And I sometimes PREFER to take up with the underdog, or the black sheep. I would LOVE to have one of these, to go with my NA.

  5. This car has an automatic, MINE has a 6-speed MANUAL, which I much prefer, and which makes it MUCH sportier (manual transmissions being what make a man one with a machine). It's 0-60 time is 5.9 seconds, and although it doesn't have M suspension, it does have BMW suspension, which is pretty good. Mine's a stripper, special ordered with 18" wheels, oyster leather upholstery and deep blue metallic paint, AND NOTHING ELSE, including having no iDrive. I expected it to be less trouble than some BMWs can be, and it is. If there's anything I love and respect it's a product that delivers, and keeps on delivering for a long time without fuss, and this one delivers! I LOVE MY 128i! But I gave it to my wife. Why would I do that? It's a long story, and it involves a private matter, so suffice to say I wanted an older Mazda Miata, another like the one I had for 11 years in CA, that and the fact that she had never driven it. She thought it was too precious, that it was my baby, and that she was afraid she might hurt it! Furthermore, she always preferred an automatic, and complained about my manual transmissions, but she just LOVES the one in this car! She thinks it is "buttery smooth," which it is. Also, she looks very good behind the wheel, with her red hair flowing against white leather in a very beautiful deep blue coupe... Furthermore, she deserves it. It was my 65th birthday present to myself, and now it belongs to my wife. Now I drive a green, mint condition 1997 Mazda Miata M-edition, an upgrade from the 1994 I owned previously. Although I love the Bimmer, I'm glad my wife has it now, because I actually still have it, to drive, and now I also have a Miata...

  7. People are always suggesting that somehow, Miatas are "girlie cars," "which mostly girls would want to drive," I suppose that must be because they are pretty, rather than gnarly (or ugly)? But what do we see? All but a small handful (like 2-3) of Miata videos are put up by - men. Virtually all the interest in Miatas is, in fact, by MEN! How can that possibly be a girlie car? The truth is, besides being as pretty as most women (which should appeal to anybody), Miatas are, first and foremost, great drivers' cars, a fact which supersedes all others. NO MAN SHOULD BE ASHAMED TO DRIVE ONE!

  8. Whether Miatas are practical is debatable. In fact, I owned a Miata for 11 years in the early 2000s, 6 of the, with a family of 3, and I found my Miata adequate (esp. given that we also had another car) to get everything done.

  9. The headline said “it’s here!” But it’s NOT here. You can’t buy one! Furthermore, the range is minimal. It needs at least 300 miles of range. I don’t know what the cost will be, but I bet it’s over $40K (one of the most endearing qualities of the old bus was that it was (relatively) cheap… no more)! All told, “the Buzz” is a nice car, but not quite nice enough, and it’s EXPENSIVE, i.e. it doesn’t quite cut it, yet.

I can't help thinking that all this additional equipment everyone seems to be so happy about helps explains why Miatas cost quite a bit more than they used to... and in MHO, a low price is an ESSENTIAL feature of the Miata. Only people with money or at least good jobs can spend as much as $35K for a toy!

  12. I AM warming to this latest model, but it is taking a long time (NA owner/lover speaking). This car is particularly attractive, the same color scheme as my BMW 128i.

  13. I DO prefer the pop-up headlights... they are distinctive and fun! The fact that they are no longer produced is a plus, the main thing being that I've got mine!

  14. If the M3 has THAT grill, BMW has RUINED their best-selling sports car. How many people WON'T buy it because it's so ugly? What a foolish move by BMW! I would never buy one...

  15. The Mustang is transformed! It's still a muscle car, but has taken on a new, even more dominant personality, green car. To me, it no longer looks like a Mustang. It looks like an electric SUV, something of a "world car."

  17. You must be psychotic. You spend half your time complaining about how slow and underwhelming they are, and the other half proclaiming how wonderful and fun they are! You seem to have a love/hate relationship with Miatas... STOP knocking them!

  18. I have no doubt that "there is something about this car that is so sublime," unfortunately, that tends to go away to some degree (depends on who you are) when you get out and look a it... There are lots of alternatives, including last year's model, and hopefully, next year's...

The thing about all that "old school" equipment, i.e. the wind-up windows, the heat/AC/sound systems, is that they are simple, mechanical and reliable, which is more than can be said of most modern electronic alternatives! The truth is, one of the things we love about Miatas is that they're simple and reliable! Why not work exceedingly well and rarely (if well maintained) fail? If that's what it means to be old school, all cars should be old school!

  23. Stop apologizing for it! It's a car that puts the emphasis on driving rather than high power and speed, and most drivers agree, it is better for it.
