  1. It was good to go then, with the exception of the mushrooming, which needed to be removed. Otherwise it was as FUNCTIONAL before as it is now, though it certainly is a lot prettier now! I like to restore my old tools’ function, but to leave the patina, the evidence of age, intact.

  2. The Chinese steel is crap by comparison, but is it good enough? In practice, would the Chinese hammer deform? It is possible that the striking difference we see here is meaningless in practice!

  5. Amazing that steel can be cold-formed like that! It must be in its softest state, annealed.
