  1. Regarding FWD vs RWD, consider this: the Honda del Sol was similar, good quality and no doubt fun to drive, but it was FWD, not a real sports car, and it was gone within 3 years. The Miata, on the other hand, was/is RWD, like the classics, a REAL sports car, and the Miata is still with us, 33 years later, with sales over 1M, and GOING STRONG!

  4. “The best part is no part” is roughly the OPPOSITE of most German engineering, and roughly the opposite of MOST engineering today (which is because change, i.e. novelty, is good for marketing, if not necessarily cost:benefit ratios). The idea that simplicity could be better is a good one!

  7. True, and I certainly do approve, but that also played a part in the eventual demise of the brand. It's really sad that one of the best engineered cars in the world is lost because it didn't quite make a profit! In a truly socialized world, the government would subsidize them, so that we could continue to have them.

  8. That must be the dumbest thing anybody ever said about Miatas! The Mazda Miata is one of the most successful cars ever, with over 1M cars built (as of 2016), most of which are still on the road.

  16. Do people who plunked down $3K for a $35k (? cheap) truck get their trucks, at projected prices? I guarantee that a lot of subscribers can’t afford $100K+, and didn’t they make a deal for a price when they put a down payment down? They should get their trucks for the original, projected price.

  17. I love these cars! They're like nothing else on the road, but weren't they made in the US, which is to say, don't they have quality problems? I don't care, they're like little hearses! I'll pay to restore one. I love 'em!

  18. I like 'em, a lot. One of these might fill in for my '99 4Runner with MT, which is getting rusty, which I worry about how I'm going to replace (probably another MT 4Runner, but this Volvo is an attractive alternative).

  22. I love these car nuts with long, or VERY long hair! I also like the fact that they're Bostonians, because I live near Boston, a very tough place to own classic cars, because of salt on the winter roads. I'm guess I'm going to have to buy a beater to drive in the winter, so I can preserve my mint '97 Miata and (now, since I drove it in the winter) near mint '13 BMW 128i. Cars were not cool in my milieu in the 70s and 80s, but I guess I'm a car guy!
