  1. You can’t go more than 50mph on the highway? I always thought they were faster than that! They are, basically, souped up VWs. They have many of the same issues, especially handling, due to the rear-mounted engine. Although quicker than VWs, they weren’t fast, by modern standards. They did make some twin-cam models that were faster, but also hard to tune and fragile, according to my limited knowledge. Always wanted one, but now that I might finally afford one, they are way outside my price range!

  2. Within my memory, 356s were not expensive. When I was 16 (1966), I could have bought a running 1956 Porsche with an aluminum body, for $800! Later, I was aware I could buy a good 356 for as little as $10K-$12K! This Speedster is rarer and more desirable, but although I haven’t checked, I don’t think you can get much in the way of 356s today for less than 6 figures.. which unfortunately puts it out of my price range! Luckily I guess, there are still plenty of other good sports cars available for much less!
