  3. The reason the A3 FAILS MISERABLY (in the US) is that it is not available with a manual transmission. The BMW is a bit noisier than the others? That's a big PLUS in a sporting machine, for most BMW users! And who cares if the boot is a tiny bit smaller? The Merc is a slug (also no manual, or car even, yet, in the US). Who's going to pay $30-$40K (US) for a badge (not me, that's for sure, unless it's attached to a supercar)?  The obvious winner is... (in MHO) the bimmer.
