  1. Under the right circumstances, e.g. a quiet setting, Cannabis can INCREASE concentration, putting one "in a zone" where we are thinking and acting efficiently. It makes tedious activities absorbing. It makes subjects that might otherwise seem boring, interesting! In college, I never tested stoned, but a little buzz always improved my ability to study, and it showed in my grades... and I started when I was 15.

  2. I for one believe that MANY of the therapeutic effects of cannabis come directly from the THC high, but as with all drugs, dosage is key. Many or most people do too much. I use sativas only, which contain more THC and less CBD than indicas, and I smoke just one small hit at a time... I therefore remain alert and competent, which is how I like it!

  3. You still need to ask yourself "which came first, the chicken or the egg?" You might have had a propensity for psychosis, which cannabis precipitated, or you might have had some psychotic episodes even if you had never used cannabis. I won't suggest that you try it again, as you are apparently doing fine.  FYI, I was psychotic once in an ICU with kidney disease (which actually DID kill me, for 7 seconds). For a couple of weeks I lived in a total fantasy world, including being trapped by gravity rays in a Smith College attic, and taking off in part of the ICU which I thought was a spaceship! It was interesting, if scary, but one day I simply snapped out of it... Been toking lightly ever since, without issues.

  4. Way too much of the behavior of young tokers is attributed to the pot hey use, when in fact MUCH of it is due to youth, and other environmental factors, including family life and guidance, or lack thereof.

  5.  @alicez1597  I agree with that, but even as dedicated a toker as I am and have always been (55 years), I will admit, or I should say agree to the possibility that Cannabis may possibly precipitate or exacerbate psychosis in people who actually have an underlying psychosis... But I, and I say WE have no evidence or proof that Cannabis CAUSES psychosis in anyone who was not teetering on the brink anyway...

  6. Most psychotic experiences occur or emerge between the ages of 15-25. It is entirely possible that your coincident cannabis use and psychosis was just that, a coincidence.

  7. It soundslike you probably ODed every time you smoked. It'sfine getting offit, but if you efer change your mind, try smoking just tiny, one small hit amounts... It's an entirely different experience than getting wasted, and in MHO, much, much better.

  8. What do YOU know about it? Have you experienced it first-hand? Or do you know about it from prohibitionist propaganda? Are you aware that many people with mental health issues try to self-medicate with it (sometimes successfully)? Are you sure which came first, the chicken or the egg?

  9. What's REALLY funny is that some of us, including me, never get noticeably bloodshot eyes... It's really just a stereotype, which may apply to heavy users... It does NOT apply to light users.

  10. It is, however, a stereotype. I have toked small amounts of Cannabis almost every day of my entire life, yet I don't get blood shot eyes when I toke. In about 55 years, no one has ever remarked that my eyes were red. Not even once.

  12. If you smoked 3-4 blunts a day (way more cannabis than a joint, plus tobacco), you WAY overdid it. No wonder it made you crazy.

  13. I usually smoke every day, but if I can't, e.g. when I'm traveling abroad, I often can't sleep. Now I transfer some cannabis gummies into a non-cannabis gummie package, and take them with me... Nobody questions them. Problem solved!

  14. I started smoking pot at 15 (I am now 70, and still enjoy daily tokes), but I never experienced and of the negatives described here...

  17.  @m-h1217  Something else, why should cannabis harm brain cells any more than the thousands of other chemicals we are exposed to every day? The fact that cannabis is psychoactive tells us nothing about whether it kills brain cells or not (and so far, science has not been able to verify ANY such damage)! You could benefit from a course in critical thinking (and a few in science, preferably chemistry, wouldn't hurt either). My doctors (and I have many, at some of the leading hospitals in the world) have no problem with my cannabis use. What makes you think you know better?

After 55 years of use (and a BS and an MS in biological sciences), I believe that MUCH of the therapeutic effects of Cannabis are directly attributable to THC, and likely a host of cannabinoids that modify its effect. In other words, for many conditions, including insomnia, lack of appetite and pain, it is the buzz itself which is therapeutic. Efforts to separate the 2 (THC from the medicinal effects) are prohibitionist propaganda.
