The company that puts a small mine on the moon to refine He3 for pickup would return it's investment a thousandfold within a year, it's just that that initial investment would still be something that is out of reach of even the private sector at the moment, but a lot of rich folk are working on it. Both Richard Branson and Paul Allen own companies working on stratospheric launch vehicles while Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos fight it out in the rocket department.

A British collection system was demonstrated in January where a micro-satellite with a harpoon captured a larger object as part of a test, the next test is in a few months. The idea is to launch a payload of 50-80 of these and have them grab a piece of debris each and pull it down into the atmosphere to burn up. The biggest obstacle was designing the harpoon as suction cups and adhesives don't work in vacuum and an electromagnet or permanent magnet would be too complex and/or extra weight. https://www.universetoday.com/141520/british-satellite-tests-its-space-junk-harpoon/

I had read about the depressurisation of Soyuz 11 but had no idea it was returning from Salyut 1 at the time with three guys who had just entered the history books :/ I remember reading about how when they opened Soyuz 11 they found that one of the cosmonauts had released himself from his harness and had been fighting to fix the valve that took their atmosphere away :/

When you dock a Soyuz with the ISS you are effectively giving the ISS an engine, since the capsule has it's own engine. I suppose you could fill a Soyuz payload area with fuel and then dock it to the station, the problem is orienting the station in the right direction as manoeuvring in space would require thrusters on every surface of a vessel in order to make course corrections and apply braking thrust when you get to your destination, they would have to go outside the station and retrofit it with dozens of little boosters.

Yeah, folks forget that every European organisation has different members depending on who wants to take part and who doesn't.

Where did he mention Komarov? When he said the first time he meant because the crew of Columbia was the second time, not Komarov...

There was a British astronaut on board Mir the day Soyuz' new autodock feature was being tested and I still remember his anecdote about being told to "hold on to his shit" by his Russian hosts when they realised the Soyuz was not slowing down and would smash into Mir at about four metres per second.

Hehe, I love that bottom feeder to apex carnivore, poetic yet brutal.

I enjoyed reminding Americans of Skylab's fate when last year many were mocking China over the fact no one knew where their station would land.

Down votes are from people who watch a video that was in their recommend list and believe down voting will alter YouTube's recommend algorithm to no longer recommend videos of that type.
