That's a good question, I would assume that all backup and emergency systems at a nuclear power plant would contain no electronics and would have their cabling shielded so that when the grid went down they could continue to cool their reactors, but then people also assumed that Russia knew how to make a nuclear power plant and that the Japanese wouldn't place critical machinery in the basement of a flood-prone nuclear plant. :/

  2. Aussie? Western Europe is currently having record breaking temperatures with something like 46 degrees Celsius in parts of France. Where I am in Scotland it got so hot that a tiny drop of rain triggered a thunderstorm, lightning looks very weird in daylight...

  3. Why self driving cars? A regular car would be screwed also by a CME because the distributor would burn out and the engine would not be able to ignite fuel, a diesel would be OK.
