In the majority of collisions where the perpetrator is drunk or high they often survive, but when the perpetrator is sober they have no more or less chance of surviving than anyone else. The reason intoxicated people are more likely to survive collisions is because their impaired reactions mean they are unlikely to "brace for impact" in time and it is bracing for impact that causes bones to snap and arteries to tear in high speed collisions. If you're going to crash at 30mph then tensing your body can have benefits such as not smashing your face in to the person in front of you, but if you're going to crash at 60mph your best bet is to go limp and hope for the best, because tensing up your muscles at a time when you really need your body to be bendy and pliable can cause horrendous internal injuries.

@juliogonzo2718 It's irrelevant what caught fire first, the point is still the same - the bus started smoking from underneath and passers by told the driver. The driver got everyone off the bus and someone or other called the fire department. A few minutes later the fire reached the batteries and the bus went up. Gasoline buses have done the exact same via ruptured fuel pipes, overheated engine manifolds and a myriad of other reasons. You are just under the mistaken belief that this perfectly working bus just went BANG!! and suddenly became dangerous - it did not. It caught fire and the fire eventually reached a combustible material.

@GabrielVilanova-n3p It is extremely rare for electricity via either shock or burns to kill you instantly. People should be so lucky.

A lot of people here blaming the moving car but the first thing you do when you break down is put on your hazard lights because it can take the brain a few vital seconds to differentiate between a moving car and a stationary car if there's no brake lights or hazard lights showing - you also do not stay in or near your car, at least here in Europe. So in my opinion this idiot just about killed himself and a lot of other people by not knowing the basics of being a road user.

@ricocheteraw90sthebestdecade Statistically though, you are wrong. Most of those caught with a phone at the wheel are tradesmen and delivery drivers, both of whom are predominantly male.

If US films and TV shows hadn't normalised drink driving for over half a century your country would not have such horrific rates of death from it, but for as long as I can remember American movies and TV shows have always shown a culture of guys having a beer at their local bar then leaving the bar and getting straight into their pickup or big rig to drive home drunk. What are your teenagers supposed to think when they see people on TV driving home from bars and clubs after several beers? In movies like Every Which Way But Loose and Smokey and the Bandit they even feature "roadhouses" - bars that exist specifically for drivers to use... It beggars belief.

@juliogonzo2718 Except the Paris bus didn't erupt violently, it began with a fire that led to everyone being evacuated and then only minutes later did that fire reach the batteries and did exactly what a gas tank would. Please don't distort facts to fit your agenda, that's what fascists do.

That highway is incredibly dark, was the lighting out or do they just not illuminate roads in the US? In Europe highways only look like that during a blackout.
