Repeats of the previous frame. 15fps (which was the norm back then) fits perfectly into 60 so they could just show each frame four times, but to make the video appear smoother I'm guessing that they instead meld one frame into another so the second, third and fourth frames would be frame one slowing melding into frame 5, which is the real second frame.

  7. It's not every single one, it's just the American ones, and that is because they were not involved until December 1941. There are plenty of ww2 videos from 1939 made by the British, French and Germans and some as far back as 1935 made by the Chinese and Japanese.

  25. Not in handheld cameras though. The technology to make movies like The Wizard of Oz required a camera the size of a tank and it would be decades before the process could be reproduced in a handheld.

  29.  @DAZZYD1977  No, you need both a camera capable of multiple exposures onto different films and then the films for all three or four exposures. Are you sure you aren't confusing still cameras for movie cameras because if you have evidence of a handheld colour movie camera at a time where MGM paid the equivalent of 20 million in today's money just to build one into their studio then I'd be very interested.
