Comments by "Rob Fraser" (@krashd) on "How Hong Kong Changed Countries" video.
We never colonised Hong Kong, it has always been 99% Han Chinese, we just administered it as a trading post. Asian nations never took kindly to westerners just going wherever we wanted (good on them I say) and so refused to trade with us unless we stayed on our ships, the Japanese made us do just that but the Chinese granted us an island to use. As for the opium wars, well, there's a lot of shit we're not proud of.

In all fairness to the French, Belgians, Dutch, etc their colonies tended to fail because we either stole them or blockaded them until they starved. New York City was originally called New Amsterdam after all, and the Falkland islands which Argentina seem to think are theirs were 'liberated' from the French.

You can't alter someone's belief when they've been brought up since birth to see socialism and communism as the enemy, if there is something wrong with a country an American will refer to it as socialist or communist without fail. You can't fault them for a century of indoctrination.

@olympia5758 It's not ugly, it's JC Denton from Deus Ex, one of the coolest videogame characters of all time. I do agree though that it's really fucking unoriginal that every 12 year old and his brother is using it as an avatar but humans are turning into sheep, everyone wants to be identical to everyone else.

Some places are trickier than others, we gave India industries and enough rail track to wrap around the globe but they still seem to shit in the street.

@thenewfireguy5658 No, I'm fairly sure he must be thinking of some other big thing that is happening on that day...

@jeanbethencourt1506 Oh look, an anonymous account spouting nonsense. Don't see that on here much.

@rentin5836 Our Empire ended in 1948...

@Vault Hunter No one in their right mind has ever thought a Chinese island 10,000 miles from Britain was a part of Britain. They were referring to the oppression Hong Kongers now receive at the hands of their 'elected' officials.

We were under Labour. Under the Tories? Not so much, the Tories couldn't organise a bingo night, though they would happily subcontract it to the lowest bidder and then blame someone else when it all goes tits up. I was pleasantly surprised when the Tories created an actual Brexit secretary instead of just contracting a legal firm to do all the messy EU stuff while they quaff champagne and bugger children.

Nope, we go back a lot further than the 1940's.

They left out all the stuff about detectives Carter and Lee gatecrashing the handover while searching for the Chinese ambassador's missing daughter.
