  7. People ignore the electronics. My mum's car constantly has at least two warning lights on but her mantra is "if it drives it works" so she just waits til something starts burning or breaks down, like 90% of drivers do. Those of us who embrace technology tend to use the warnings to apply preventative maintenance and keep their car working.

The toxicity of lead had been known since antiquity but it was only after leaded fuel became the fuel of choice for tens of millions of vehicle around the world that we discovered that any amount of lead no matter how small could still be harmful since it is a cumulative toxin. This meant even as early as the 40's every car manufacturer was trying to either substitute lead in their fuel or decrease the emissions of it from their cars in order to rectify the mistake of adopting it.

  11. It's nothing to do with sounding fancy, it's because no one probably knew the correct pronunciation. Sensors were as common as space stations in 1971.

This was not just British engineers, some of these innovation such as cruise control were adopted from the US, while the ABS was adopted from France, this car was a test bed for all of the next generation car features from around the world. 2.) The EU wrote protection rules because unlike most of the world it looks after it's constituent states and it prides itself on safety and the environment.
