@ScottysHaze It was 1966, just three years earlier the US had come close to ending human civilization by putting nuclear missiles in Turkey and then throwing a tantrum when the Russians tried to do the same in Cuba. I think the OP must be deluded because every account of the 60's I've heard from Americans was that their parents were so terrified of nuclear war that they all built bomb shelters in their back yards, then there was the never ending delight that was Vietnam. Had 1969 not been such a momentous year I think most Americans of a certain age would rather forget the whole decade existed.

@TuhljinTampergauge You do know that in October the second worst terrorist attack in history was perpetrated and now Israel is hellbent on wiping out all Palestinians and dragging the world in to WW3. I'd say the world most certainly has changed for the worse in the past two months, and so would anyone with a functional noggin.
