  1. Because it's not numerical, it's on and off, there can only be two variables for on and off. Or think of it as go and stop, if a circuit is a massive maze leading to junctions that do different things then each of those junctions will have gates that are either 'go' or 'stop'. Trillions of those build a complex processor that puts this shit on the screen :D
