We never colonised China, it was the Chinese who created cities likes Macau and Hong Kong for foreign powers to live and trade so they would not venture further inland to affect Chinese culture in the same way that American pressure to open trade with the west killed Japan's Shogunate culture and replaced it with a militaristic aggressive one.

I would imagine that researchers into cryo-sleep or 'stasis' would have to be interested in Chris' survival, his body was basically in suspended animation for over 30 mins with no obvious ill effects from the temperature or lack of oxygen. When we are sending people on years-long missions beyond Mars in the second half of the century they might sleep in pods designed by people inspired by stories like this one.
