If a ship breaks down it just drifts, a plane or helicopter falls out of the sky. If you are incapacitated while in control of a boat it just drifts, a plane or helicopter falls out of the sky. If something hits you at sea you could sink and be forced to abandon it, a plane or helicopter falls out of the sky. I could think of more reasons as to why disagreeing with the OP's expert quote is just stupidity but three seems like enough.

In aircraft even perfect visibility only gives you a matter of seconds to avoid a collision, and that is assuming that both aircraft are travelling directly towards one another with the cockpit facing the direction of travel. In this case the helicopter was climbing with it's rear towards the plane and the plane was descending so the direction it was travelling in was obscured by it's nose. This is why knowing about any other craft in the vicinity is a must and why active radio communication is a must, because keeping an eye on what is below you and above you adds a literal new dimension to what those in cars or boats have to deal with, especially when even a slow aircraft is comparable to a racing car or speedboat.

@Ash-vm6vy Being an aviation enthusiast I know of almost every documented crash, including the countless mid-air collisions. I'd still rather be on a ship with a drunk captain than in a plane with a drunk captain.
