Well tempered glass is used in high-rise buildings (and elsewhere) more than regular glass because as you saw in the failed attempt it is incredibly strong, you don't want a bird smashing your office window 50 floors up because the draft could drag you out of the building. So it does look more real than using the sugar glass, they just obviously time the detonation better in movies.

  4. Especially from an old fighter plane because then people could understand how they were able to fire their machines guns through the spinning props.

  5. Sugar glass for the harmless stuff and tempered glass for the real stuff so that when it shatters it turns in to tiny blocks that can cut you but are unlikely to cut deep enough to hit an artery.
