  1. +Rob Fraser In a way it is not at all unlike any other type of ejector seat.  In a fighter jet, if you did not blow the canopy first then you would go through it and suffer catastrophic head injuries.  As what happened on Top Gun ;)

  4. +penguinexpress12 They exist.  The Russian Ka50 included tiny rockets in to the base of each rotor blade.  If the pilot's only hope was to pull the eject lever then the blades would be blasted from the craft about one twelfth of a second before the pilot was launched upwards and away from the distressed aircraft.

  5. +Sir.Edward Jenkins It's not beams, when you pull the eject release all rotor blades are ejected first, like one tenth of a second.  And then the pilot is ejected like and other pilot would be - straight up. A crashing or uncontrollable helicopter no longer has any need for a rotor so it throws it away moments after the pilot pulls the eject handle.
