  1.  @chazbaz4519  Actually all but two nuclear plants in the UK have cooling towers because you cannot put seawater near metal or it will corrode, freshwater is fine and this is why Chernobyl had no cooling towers, it used the nearby lake. The plants in the UK that don't have cooling towers use seawater but instead of passing the seawater through the cooling loop it just enters a large pool that the cooling loop sits in - like an underwater radiator. Jellyfish must love the heat from it because every couple of years one of the plants will overheat because the inlet to the pool is clogged with jellyfish.
