@terrybardy2848 George had no say in the matter because the UK was no longer a monarchy by 1917, the government agreed to let the King's aunt take refuge in the UK but his cousin and family could not because giving exile to enemies of socialism would fuel unrest in the UK.

The King had no power, unlike Russia the UK was no longer a monarchy. The king wanted to rescue his cousin but parliament did not because it would only fuel unrest in the UK amongst it's own socialists if the UK offered exile to their enemies.

The mystery was partially down to gross indecency as one of the guards responsible for disposing of the family molested the body of the Empress and made a joke about being "the last Russian to finger her", this infuriated the officer in charge and noting how drunk many of the men were he ordered all but the officers to leave before they could be similarly disrespectful to the children's corpses. He also didn't trust them not to steal any of the jewels the princesses had sown into their gowns. This meant the final movements of the family's remains, including the failed first attempt to dispose of them would only be known to four or five officers.

Only two servants died I think, prince Alexie's doctor and one of the Empresses maids, this is because they refused to leave the royals' side, though they had no idea they were about to be killed. The officer in charge of the execution had no intention of killing any servants but upon trying to dismiss them the doctor argued that he never leaves the prince's side and the maid said the same of the Empress so after arguing for a while the officer said "fair enough, enjoy the journey" and let them go downstairs wit the family. Needless to say it was the last argument either of them would ever regret.
