The problem there is that the CO2 does not really go anywhere, it is simply stored until the tree is either burned or rots, though replanting a lot of trees would obviously benefit the planet.

Older trees can be hollow or have cavities and they can fill up with rainwater over time, piercing the tree is then just like stabbing a hole in a water barrel, the amount of fluid and the height of the hole dictates the pressure of the squirting water. And trees can hold a lot of water.

@greatbriton8425 You also chose to omit the fact that most of that CO2 is concentrated in a thin layer, like a sheet of glass running across the atmosphere (almost like the roof of a greenhouse, I wonder if that's where the name comes from...) Fancy that? A layered atmosphere meaning that even gases that there is less than 1% of can perfectly envelop the entire globe like the skin of a balloon. Atmospheric layers? Geometric shapes? Can you imagine if they taught this stuff in school... /s
