Look up the 1990 Strangeways Prison riot, there's some good pics of the prisoners having some rooftop recreation, they held a little dressing up party and started pelting people with roof tiles.

Fukushima was nowhere near as bad as Chernobyl because those reactors melted, they didn't explode sending bits of radioactive graphite over hundreds of yards, nor did they have nuclear fires burning for several days carrying plumes of radioactive dust across Europe. Fukushima and Chernobyl are both a 7 on the INES chart only because the chart doesn't go up to ten where even then Chernobyl would probably be an eleven. Then again I only take my information from respected, educated sources and not conspiracy nutbags who in 2011 were telling people everything in the pacific would be dead by 2015 despite the pacific being perfectly healthy even in 2018. Take your info from acreditted sources and not shitty amateur websites set up by crackpots living in trailers.

  15. Chernobyl is the name of the oblast and it's capital is also called Chernobyl, Pripyat however is the city closest to the NPP although both cities are in the exclusion zone. There are images of Chernobyl online but it's difficult to locate them correctly because the majority of Pripyat images get tagged with that name because of tourists and the media. Also the few inhabitants of Chernobyl do not like people noseying around the city because you could be a looter for all they know.

When he referenced the largest sub he was correct in that it was an Akula (known in the west as a Typhoon) but he included the dimensions for a Pike (known in the west as Akula), after that he mentioned Akula's popping up in India and the Caribbean, these were the smaller Pike/Akulas and not Akula/Typhoons.

  19. Signature recognition is not specific to the US, anything with a hydraphone and a computer can build a database of acoustic signatures. Also SOSUS tried to deploy stations in Russian waters but they were destroyed soon afterwards at each attempt, the US had to wait for satellite tech or rely on a snooping sub to have any idea of what the Northern fleet were up to in their own back yard.

With that logic you could do away with subs altogether and just rely on ICBM's, but travelling a few thousand kilometres takes time (even with a rocket) and you want to give your enemy as little time as possible to either counter your missiles or launch a retaliatory attack. If a sub launched it's missiles off the coast of New Jersey it could destroy Washington DC, NYC, Baltimore, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, and all inside ten minutes. Though the Russians changed their doctrine in the 70's from creeping the eastern seaboard in quiet subs to hiding under the arctic ice sheets in double-hulled subs capable of ramming through thick ice. It wasn't SOSUS that caused them to change tactics though, it was regular AWACS flights - subs cannot go very deep and so if you are high enough up you can not only see them with your eyes as long black whales, but you can also pick up their noise and heat with sensors, and because they can still be seen by AWACS at their maximum dive depth it means they can't run or hide from AWACS, once found their patrol is over and they will have to let someone else try.

  29. A carrier can only travel as fast as the slowest vessel in it's fleet which is usually 18 or 20 knots so anything above that is pointless. Also a carrier fleet has to stay near at least one 'oiler' at any one time unless it wants to become the only vessel in it's fleet that has fuel. Putting a nuclear power plant on a carrier is like giving a teacher a jetpack and saying "take your class to the zoo". Both technologies are wasted in their role.

  30. Easy, other nations don't use gunboat diplomacy like the US does. Carriers don't fight other carriers, they assert dominance over an area, the Soviets concentrated on defence and first strike nuclear capabilities so they went mad building subs, the US concentrated on asserting it'self over other nations so they went mad building carriers. Only the UK and France has overseas interests so only we have bothered building carriers, Russia built a cruiser-carrier as a test bed and built one for China, but in conventional warfare a carrier would be useless.

  46. The Typhoon is an Akula class, Typhoon is just NATO's reporting name for it. Although the facts that were included were from a Pike-class (known as an Akula by NATO). 14,000 tonnes is the average size of a US, British or French ballistic sub, a Typhoon was over 40,000 tonnes - twice the displacement of the 2nd largest sub (America's Ohio-class).
