Also tax guarantees service, whereas insurance does not guarantee service. The priority of an insurer is to make profit and that means not paying out if it can be avoided. In Europe you won't be refused treatment because you failed to disclose that you had measles 26 years earlier...

@yuppp5885 Wrong, the number of doctors that travel abroad is tiny as they do the job to help people, not line their pockets. You're mistaking us for a pure capitalist nation, of which there is only one.

@lilbouper If you don't like waiting just go private. In fact I would bet that the wait times for private healthcare in a socialised country are far shorter than your average wait in the US since so few people go private in our countries. If you are with BUPA in the UK you would get seen immediately regardless of whether you had an ingrown toenail or kidney disease since they have as many hospitals as they do clients.

@lilbouper It's never rationed, everyone gets it equally. And there is a wait because it is a finite resource obviously. If freedom is a right then why are 1% of Americans imprisoned?

To be fair a republican would likely say the military is a necessity because the US (which hasn't been invaded in almost 200 years) only has freedom because a dozen air carriers gets you freedom.

@YorickReturns eastern Europe and China are modern? When did such things happen?

Though we do have a space agency and we're also a member of the European Space Agency.

"Do you like to pay taxes?" should have been countered with "Do you like to pay insurance?" and then "Especially when that insurance costs more and that insurance doesn't have to pay out." The police and the fire department can't refuse to help you because you pay taxes that guarantee their use, if you paid insurance for them instead they would use any loophole they could to not attend your property. Just as a healthcare provider will use any loophole it can to avoid paying for your costly treatment.
