  1. 😂 Slappy Calzaghe ! I think thats what Hopkins called him. In fairness tho, in hindsight, I think his slappy combos ended up being tactical, after starting out as just being a technical flaw due to rushing his work. (Trying to be fast, instead of just being fast) Similar to Usyk today he uses the pitty pat stuff to sneak in sterner stuff behind it.

  3. In my life so far there's a few truly GREAT displays of Sweet Science 1: Roy Jones Jr vs John Ruiz If boxing is ever considered a Martial Art, it will be because of that fight. Roy had a few truly great displays of the sweet science in his career, but never against an opponent holding a major world title who outweighed him by so much. 2: Sugar Ray Leonard vs Marvelous Marvin Hagler A fantastic display of the sweet science by the ring rusted Leonard who had to dig deep into his scientific tool bag to outlast & outshine the tricky, determined & reigning p4p #1 for 5 years in a row, Hagler. An epic scrap & an absolutely epic performance by Leonard. 3: Calzaghe vs Lacy A genuine unification fight with the lineal title on the line between two unbeaten Champions. The stakes couldn't have been higher & very few fancied Calzaghe going into it, it seemed like time had caught up to him n this was his last hurrah, a big payday unification fight to see him off into retirement. Probably the best display of pure boxing ever seen in a world championship ring by a Brit. If you didn't see it live then you wont quite grasp it. It was truly iconic, hence its place on my list among the great names above him. Lacy was never the same after it, but make no mistake, before it happened everyone was looking at him as being the second coming of Tommy Hearns, a genuine KO artist who struck fear into the hearts of fight fans. Lacy was the next big thing n had he beat Calzaghe he woulda went on to be maybe the biggest name in the sport outside the HW division.

  4. Prime vs Prime, probably the best Brirish Boxer to set foot in a ring since 1980. He did a lotta things "wrong", technically he was far from perfect & you would never use him as an example for a kid to copy, but when it came down to having a scrap, to getting into the trenches n seeing who wanted it most ? Calzaghe had something special inside him that just made it his fight. Watson (Technically maybe the best Brit of his era), Eubank, Benn, Collins & Froch, somehow some way Calzaghe grabs the fight by the scruff of the neck n makes it his. Its what he done. Maybe Heroll Graham with a similar unorthodox style could upset him on points but at the world championship level, I think p4p Calzaghe is the best of the Brits so far.
