@TheRealAbraxas Prolly got MMA is a simulated death match, based around lethal martial arts chokes, joint disabling submissions & bone breaking strikes, not an Olympic amateur sport where you get points for good technique n doing no harm.

The jab is a set up punch, nothin more. It either sets up a power shot or it sets up a defensive move, NOBODY has ever been beaten by a jab alone ... except Loyd Honeyghan when MArk Breland KOd him with a jab ... & Josh Koshcheck who GSP jabbed to death.

@JackVz Have you got a physical disability preventing you from slipping a jab? You don't even have to slip it, you kno there's nothing of serious quality coming behind it so let him put his jab out there n attack off it. Its not like there's no tape of him out there & its not like you wouldn't have weeks to prepare for him. With Strickland a jab is just a jab, he isn't setting anything up with it. Besides you lose the fight if you get KOd. Get touched by a timid jab 200 times n theres still a sizable chance you did more quality work than him n the judges are gonna give it to you, unless of course you are actually physically disabled & did nothing but let him jab you 200 times.

JohnJoatan .... alikea light !!! Yer lying if yer trying to tell us that is your recollection of that fight, if indeed you seen it live at all? He went out like a light & the jolt of him hitting the ground woke him back up & the ref allowed him to continue. You cant say he wasn't in his prime, coz even though Marty bullied him Strickland showed a better skill set than he has done in his past 5 fights. If becoming more basic & moving up a weight automatically puts a fighter in their prime, I stand corrected, but until then ... You ... Are ... WRONG!!

@bigheadrhino Yer talking like it wasnt a coin toss as to who was gonna be announced as the winner. Vetorri did just as much to Gynosanya, apart from the fluke knock down, as Strickland did. Strickland was very lucky to get the decision but Gynosanya only has himself to blame, it will be remembered as a fight he lost, not one that Strickland won, at least not convincingly.

@mikedobson1678 Fury is enigmatic though. Insult Fury, wound his pride & you have an unstoppable charging elephant on yer hands, like Cunningham, & Wilder got after their first fight. Let Fury have things his own way n you get the goofy 270lb 6'9 giant who thinks he is a 5'9 middleweight copy of Willie Pep. There's no such change or enigma with Strickland, he does the best he can with what he has got & he doesn't venture away from what gets him paid, namely his jab, his teep kick, his ability not to get KOd & his ability to push a tempo that makes other fighters slightly uncomfortable enough to second guess their cardio & allow him to dictate the pace n tempo of the fight. As such he is what he is, a decent prelim fighter who got lucky, went on a fabricated run vs non title contenders (due to his ability to be "controversial" on social media & therefore sell advertisement space for the UFC) n ended up winning the title in a very close fight vs a Champ who was having the worst night or 2nd worst night of his MMA career. Strickland is an anomaly, Fury is an enigma. Big difference.

JustSomeGuy69420 Thanks. I must admit though, its the only think even closely related to kung fu that I know the name of & is totally harmless to an opponent. Point I making is that if you practice a horse stance in Kung Fu (what Bruce came from) 10,000 times its still gonna be a harmless move to an opponent. Equally if you practice being timid by hiding behind a defensive jab 10,000 times its still gonna be a pretty harmless move to an opponent. With that said, Im a big fan of a good jab & although not a big fan of Strickland I do rate him, I just find it annoying that he went from being totally ignored as a potential contender to ending up with the title over night, without fighting anyone in the top 5.

I tuned to hear some criticism about him n his badic unevolving fight tactics n skillset. Needless to say that after 4 mins of idiotic fawning over his timidity, I tuned back out n voiced my opinion in here, in the comments, exactly like YouTube is designed for, so dry yer eyes wee girl, we dont all have yout feminine intuition or emotional intelligence, & you shouldn't be trying to bully me for being less girlish than you.

@oxsila A jab is a still a punch. Time it right & it can catch a man off balance n deck him or you might even get lucky n catch him on a nerve when hes still cold n make him wobble, but all in all, among competitive amateurs & pro fighters a jab is only a set up punch. In a fight you may see an opponent with a cut, you may see them with a broken nose in which case the jab becomes something more than just a set up punch but typically its not a jab that caused the cut or broken nose. Go check out Mark Breland vs reigning World Champion Honeyghan if you want to see a Kronk Gym styled powerful well timed jab, then go look at Usman n be thoroughly unimpressed.
