He quit coz of Leonard's tactics convincing him that the fix was in & anyone listening to the commentary today can hear & see the ridiculous bias toward Leonard who was doing little to no harm to Duran who was winning the fight both in terms of quality punches landed i.e. damage, ring generalship & effective aggression.

@Svhopowa Listen, Chavez was a great fighter. He fought the best of his era, some top TOP quality fighters like Whittaker, De La Hoya, Meldrick Taylor, , Rodger Mayweather, Hector Camacho. Julio Cesar Chavez is an all time great, no doubt about it. Him vs Duran at LW woulda been an all time great Rivalry. But has there ever been a more ferocious, more demonic, more sadistic, craftier LW than Duran ? No. Fighter of the Decade for the 1970's. And he only had Carlos Monzon, Jose Napoles, Muhamad Ali, Joe Frazier, Ken Norton, George Foreman & Larry Holmes for competition for that title. 😏 Fighter of the decade for the 1980's was Leonard & Duran holds an epic world championship victory over him. 1980's Duran, Duran above 147 was a faded, jaded crafty veteran version of the ferocious, sadistic, famished demon he was in the 1970s. Im a big fan of Chavez but hes not quite in Durans league.

In my head, even tho Ive seen the Hagler fight dozens of times, Tommy Hearns still beats Marvin Hagler, on paper. Crazy eh 😇

Ya gotta give Canelo his due. Hes done his homework on all the greats, taken a little bit from this guy n mixed it with a little bit from that guy. Hagler made very few mistakes but nor does Canelo. Nobody today can, did or does maul him n nobody from Haglers era would, except maybe Tommy Hearns who could possibly keep him backing up like GGG1 did but doing it from long range #HitmanStyle. People ignore how well rounded, versatile & complete a boxer Hagler was, because when it was time to do or die nobody was tougher than him but before it got to that point in the fight Hagler was the epitome of systematic. Breaking a fighter down piece by piece, (Something Canelo does expertly too) Hagler was every bit as effective bein an elusive boxer puncher as he was being a seek n destroy demolition expert. He wouldn't maul Canelo for two reasons, 1: Canelo is genuinely great, just like Hagler is. 2: Hagler was no goon. He never rushed the finish (Hearns fight aside). He was a demolition expert, he made sure he had weakened the whole structure before he went in to bring it down. Go look at Hagler v Duran. Duran done enough with his trickery n tactics to keep Hagler respectful, Canelo would do the same. Hagler may need to get up on his toes, use the ring n keep Canelo off balance to create those openings. I think Hagler would beat Canelo but it would be a great fight, or series of fights.

@Svhopowa Who did Duran lose to in his prime ? He lost to a World champ n avenged that loss 3 times. Thats the only loss in his first 70 or so fights before the Leonard rematch. Idiot.

@periodic98 Slightly. The first Leonard fight, probably his greatest performance, was the last of "The GREAT Duran" performances. He was less superhuman from there on out, vs Moore, Hagler, Barkley, all world title fights he was in crafty veteran mode. Still great but no longer "The GREAT Duran"

@JammersDaEagle83 Twould be a great fight. Canelo is very well rounded but Hagler set the standard for being a complete boxer. As such, Hagler has better footwork than him n he would fight Canelo like he fought Sibson n Roldan, plenty of footwork n crafty stance switching. Canelo is no mug tho, he has a big box of tricks, maybe more than Marvelous Marvin but is more enough when yer fighting Hagler ? I don't think so, unless you can be more Hagler than Hagler himself ? Theres not a man on this planet before or since who could out fight Hagler when the going got tough, Hagler always had that extra gear. His KO percentage as the undisputed champ proves it.

Duran is the fighter of the decade for the 1970's. Hes consider to be top 3 if not #1 LW all time. Hes a 4 weight world champ n won 3 of those titles when he was passed his prime vs prime champions in the 1980s. Hes fought professionally in 5 decades. By what idiotic standard are you judging him by or who are you comparing him to because nobody else in boxing can stand up to his record nor his achievements. Duran is a living legend. He has been since he won his first world title in 1972. Internationally, globally loved n respected by the boxing world before satellite TV, before internet & without any corporations sponsoring him. Deal with it Snowflake. Duran is for real n he better than any fighter you have seen or will see in your lifetime. At best, a boxer could only ever hope to reach the level Duran was on.

@santoazusa I don't know the back story but I do know this, if you go into a fight with a prime Tommy Hearns, especially at 147 or 154 & you're not ready or you haven't prepared correctly ? You either have a death wish, are incredibly stupid & arrogant to the point you are insane, or you believe you committed some horrible sin or crime during a past life & now is the time you should be punished for it. I think Duran was ready, he looked great n he responded well to Tommys pressure, its just that Hearns was that good, he was that dangerous, he was & is the one, the only ... #Hitman

He had Hagler in trouble in a 50/50 gun fight. He had Leonard in trouble & behind on points until the 14th round of their first fight & Leonard acknowledged Hearns beat him in their 1989 Fight of the Year. He obliterated Duran like Leonard, Hagler & probably everyone in boxing before or since that era, couldn't. Make no mistake about this, Lads, on any given day, on any toss of the coin we could have very easily been sitting here talking about how Tommy Hearns was the cream of that crop, the King of Kings n wondering aloud if Sugar Ray Robinson woulda lasted the distance with him. Thats how good Tommy Hearns was. First man to 4 World Titles. First man to 5 World titles. First man to score KOs in every division from Welterweight to Cruiserweight. Hell of a fighter. #TheHitman
