  5. Russia is in Europe & has borders with EU nations. Russia is also a member of the Council of Europe which is why the ECHR ruled against them for jailing Nalvaney in 2014. Russia ignored that judgement, therefore the EU sanctioned them. Its not about Russia or Nalvany, its about respect for the rule of law, European institutions & holding bodies, Russia to this case, to their obligations, commitments & international agreements.

Russia on the other hand is ignoring its commitments & attacking the well being of the other 680 million members of the Council of Europe who do abide by the integrity of their word & commitment to their neighbors. Russia has a genuine territorial & cultural claim to Crimea, Im not condoning what they done or how they done it but at that time there was a lot of saber rattling going on between NATO & Russia. Its not the EUs place to get involved in military matters at this time, that is why NATO exists & as such no European war happened therefore it has been a successful policy. Germany or at least that German politician needs to pick a side, hes either for Russia or he is against them & for the EU & respect for the ECHR & its judgments. As such let NATO deal with Russia internationally on anything that doesn't come under the remit of the WTO. You are being either hypocritical or Anti EU & ignorant.

Germany is already importing natural gas from USA. If the worst comes to the worst the EU can bulk buy crude oil from other OPEC nations, build its own refineries n supply its member states from there. Theres no need to line Russias pockets if they're gonna be an obnoxious neighbor.
