If we are going to start arbitrarily changing & or rescinding international treaties to suit ourselves, personally Im all for changing the 1921 treaty & adopting the united Ireland the Irish People democratically voted for in the first Dail Eireann 1919.

@davidray6962 You are ignoring the option of the UK continuing to comply with the same EU food standards it has been complying with since 1973 & remaining part of the Customs Union it was a part of for 48 ? years. Therefore no border is required.

Instead of British industry (island) exporting through Dover why not export through Belfast instead ? Then Britistan has the best of both worlds, their regressive Brexit & they retain access to the single market. All they have to do is join the customs union. Its about time the Yanks stepped into this as Guarantors of the GFA, this Tory government has been trying to undermine it & bring it down since they got elected. The people of 9 county Ulster weren't represented in those Brexit negotiations & aren't being represented now & nobody in Dublin ever has had the spine to step up n be counted on that score.

@21stcenturyscots Need ? Need why ? The people of Ireland & Northern Ireland democratically voted to have no "Iron Curtain" between them in 1998. Whats your problem with that ? Both the EU & the UK have to respect Irish democracy & the rule of law. The UK can't whimsically be entering into new agreements that contravene long standing international treaties. Ireland didnt force them to Brexit & Northern Ireland voted against Brexit. Ireland isnt the problem here, London is.

Ireland doesnt have to unite at this time, Northern Ireland only has to secede from the UK & apply for EU membership. Unification can continue as it has been doing under the terms of the GFA 1998. No Englistani/Britistani soap opera required.

Perhaps you are mistaking, I never said that NI would or should unite with the ROI, I personally dont think now is the time for political upheaval in Ireland but if change is necessary then NI should secede from the UK, become an internationally recognised nation & apply for EU membership, unification with the ROI can happen just as easily if not easier going along that route.

The peace itself was negotiated by mainly northern Irish politicians & it was voted for by all the people of Ireland. The DUP supports the British Conservatives who created the protocol, they are in cahoots & have brought down Stormont at the behest of the British Conservatives who are determined to undermine the Good Friday Agreement & create civil unrest AGAIN. In a genuine democracy a parliament doesn't cease to function just because one party refuses to take their seats, in a genuine democracy the candidate with the next highest number of votes would fill those positions. Whats not to be proud of in that the indigenous Gaelic/Celtic people are on both of their 2 major Gaelic/Celtic islands on which their Gaelic/Celtic culture is the indigenous culture ? Now on the other hand, if we are talking about national pride ? Within the UK, the Scottish & Northern Irish COMBINED are outnumbered by immigrants & the descendants of people of non European origins, making it impossible to have any kind of democratic say within the UK regarding their own future, they are de facto serfs in an undemocratic dump, as the Brexit referendum proved. 😈

Unless you were at least 20 years old & had at least 2 years adult experience of the old "British Laws" they succeed, then you cant call them anything other than a British law because they have been the law of the land in Britain for 48 years. Not only that, Britain retained a VETO on the adoption of any or all EU law, if Britain didnt want it, Britain didnt adopt it. Nobody in Britain under the age of 68, who was of voting age in 1973, can call the EU Customs Union & EU Food Standards anything other than British Laws because they have experienced nothing but EU Laws in their adult life. Proof being, you cant name me one significant way the UK has deviated from EU Food standards since Brexit nor can you name one domestic law that has been changed since Brexit due to it coming from the EU. Dipshit.

@jncc1701 Brexit does not require a border nor does it require any extra paperwork or bureaucracy. That is a scenario created by & created for the Tories, to give them a "Crisis" to police. For Brexit to deliver for the British People & its industry the Government merely has to, as it has been doing since 1973, continue to abide by EU food standards & remain part of the Customs union or even just negotiate an agreement with the customs union. In that scenario any imports to & from the EU can be done through Belfast/N.I which remains a part of the single market, instead of Dover & its business as usual. The Tories dont want that, they want to attack Irish democracy & the quality of Irish life. Jobs for the boys, the old school tie, as you were chaps. At this stage anyone supporting Brexit & the Tories deserves no better.

@jncc1701 Ive suggested nothing that the EU hasn't already agreed to in earlier negotiations. And for your information, you may want to familiarise yourself with the actual reality of the current Kentucky Fried Protocol, or was that an oven ready chicken ? Regardless.. The reality is that there is a Border in the Irish sea but the Brits are trying to renegotiate their oven ready turkey again. As such my suggestion is the only sensible way forward. They accept there can be no negotiation on the Food Standards, they can try to negotiate a deal on Customs union & it has already been decided that NI remains part of the single market, it has an open border with the ROI/EU & therefore unrestricted access to the friction-less trade at its ports in Dublin & Rosslare Its not like Britistan wont incur cost by investing in Belfast & the infrastructure in North England & Scotland, it will be a huge project & a massive undertaking. The only thing stopping it is the Torys & their supporters not wanting to see prosperity leave south east Britistan n migrate to the North of their island & into the North of Ireland. The only problems that exist are the problems they are creating.

Salmonella eggs n Mad Cow Disease, famous Britistani cuisine, & now they want to add chlorinated chicken to that list along with all the over fished Sovereign Britistani Mackerel they fought so hard for in the Brexit campaign. Nobody wants to live under or trusts British Food Standards n therefore nobody trusts or wants food products originating in Britain poisoning the EU food chain. Manufactured goods are a less immediate concern, therefore there may be wiggle room on customs checks on goods.
