The question is, why doesn't he have KO power!?
He trains everyday yet his punching technique remains crap, his set ups are non existent, singular jab with nothing behind it until he musters the courage to follow it with an ineffective right cross.
Theres absolutely no reason he couldn't have polished his punching technique, his punching set ups & attacking tactics by now. He's lazy, entitled & has settled for what he has got, namely a system of fighting that gets him to the final bell.
What you see is what you get from Strickland, & thats mostly a jab thats just a jab & a teep kick thats just a teep kick, backed up by good cardio & an ability not to get hit clean when in the pocket.
I like Strickland, to a degree, but he has gone from being slightly underrated to being criminally overrated.

He wont crumble, he proved he is real vs Emmett, he will be there until the end, but I fancy Max to have too much for him, similar to how Volk had too much for him, except Max hasn't had the ridiculous schedule that Volk had.
Also, Max looked WAY bigger than him at the ceremonial weigh in. He wasnt just taller, he was easily as thick in the arms, shouders & across the chest.
Dont be be surprised if Max has too much power for him. He obviously did the weight gain for Gathje the right way n nailed his weight cut.
He reminds me of how big McGregor was at FW, you couldn't fit one more ounce of muscle onto him at 145, he is the epitome of a full sized FW right now.
Comparing Toporia to Gathje Id say Gathje has better footwork. Toporia hits hard because he swings hard n to swing hard he plods forward looking to set his feet.
Max has all the tools to make this fight look easy & give Toporia a very painful, & possibly concussive. reality check.

@sjones8772
Go on then, who has he hurt significantly, or what has he done with his strong hand jab?
Typically, a fighter who jabs with his strong hand is one who is un-coachable, unless you are Cuban, they have trained batches of their fighters to tactically fight southpaw.
Fighters like De La Hoya have done it because they have a wicked lead hook they set up behind it.
Strickland has nothing behind his jab, its just a jab, nearest weapon to the nearest target & as such it is the weakest, most timid punch that can be thrown.
As for his style, thanks for explaining it to me, seeing as I have fallen asleep through most of his dull boring fights n never realised whats up.
Theres a reason why he is the UFCs only ex/champ with double digit prelim fights on his record.

The first time I ever seen Wonderboy look drained at the weight.
I dunno if its a good thing or a bad thing.
On the one hand he is looking like a BIG 170lb for the first time, he looked big for one of the Woodley fights too but he didnt look dried out at the weigh in like this time, but if he cut the weight the right way its not necessarily a bad thing, he could be a big strong striking n sprawling machine on the night.
On the other hand it could have weakened him & Robert Whittacker claims he never fully recovered from his weight cuts at 170 which left him chinny, & even if it doesnt weaken em look at older fighters like Frankie Edgar who cut weight, there comes a point that when the punch resistance goes, it stays gone.
With all that said, if everything is as it normally is, Id expect Wonderboy to win this fight pretty comfortably, Wonderboy style, nothing overwhelming, just good consistent striking with a good consistent take-down defence, getting him a points victory.
It usually takes something pretty special to beat him & Ive seen nothing special outa Holland, other than talk, & even that has never been anything special.

Like Cormier he is an ELITE LEVEL competitor
Olympic level, no breakdancer bums go to the Olympics & thats where i think Adesyana is gonna lern.
Romero lulls guys to sleep with his rhythm, then explodes, it looks like he hypnotizes them but its his years of experience competing one vs one that gives him that "Magic"
Why did he dance on stage ?
Coz hes goofy n lovable ?
Or coz hes an elite level competitor making shapes n drawing reactions from an opponent he thinks is a BOI ?
The Diaz brothers start fighting you as soon as they sign the contract, Romero & Cormier start fighting you as soon as they find out you might be possibly, one day, just maybe in their weight class, thats how competitive they are, Romero has been reading Izzy since day one & has been licking his chops thinking about taking a chunk outa that BOI.
Adesyana is no boy tho, he has paid dues in Kickboxing which is why he has that excellence, hes not just technical hes also battle proven & with a bit of slight of hand he managed to get to the top n fight someone in recovery from doing 10 rounds vs Romero for the title.
Adesyana is no bum but hes not the real champ either.
Whittacker was n wat damaged Whittacker is Romero, not Adesyana.
I consider this a vacant title & if nothing has drastically changed since the last time either man fought I have to give Romero the edge. Hes too much in too many departments not to do at least some damage n when Romero damages you you stay damaged.

Im not complaining about wrasslers, most of em are fantastic athletes, brave, tough, intelligent skillful men but a boring safety first style is a boring style that wont bring money/fans or keep money/fans. So if , as you say, fans can like it or not they wont ke it or pay for it & the sport will be up shit creek without a paddle.
Boxing promoted safety first fighters like Hopkins & Mayweather n killed itself, which let MMA take over now MMA is going safety first Bare Knuckle Boxing is making a comeback.
A cowardly safety first style is boring, I dont complain if a wrassler ends a fight no matter how boring it is like Cormier n Nurmagomedov do, coz theres an end product to be admired n respected but boring position players like Covington & Usman (Their great fight aside) cant be awarded points for timidity, refusing to engage n holding a safe position, there has to be damage otherwise theyre just stalling the action.
Its Prizefighting, not amateur wrassling.
Ya cant compare wat Silva done in the sport to Adesyana, yes theres face value similarities but nothing else, Silva is one of the all time MMA greats, does Adesyana even have 8 UFC fights yet ?
If yer gonna make a comparison then compare Adesyana to Uriah Hall.
Continue to give amateur wrasslers points for stalling the action n playing it safe n amateur wrasslers will continue to dominate the sport & the sport will continue to force fans out n Bare Knuckle Boxing will continue to grow as MMA fades.
Dont give points for nutral positions & penalize those holding/forcing neutral harmless positions n strikers/well rounded MMA'sts will dominate the sport & MMA will remain the king of the jungle.

@marvin469
Its casual fans who drive the profits, hardcore fans keep the sport alive in times of trouble, and what Im telling you is that in Ireland, throughout the island, there is ZERO support for Garry among the People, they're indifferent to him, at best & that is only if they even know who he is.
In Britistan, whos corporate media machine oversees the "Irish" media, there is even less support for Garry, & if he is recognised by mma fans there it is with contempt.
So he has no fan base & he has no media machine pushing him to that fan base, so where is the potential for him to be a star ?
Hes a decent MMA fighter but he isnt an electrifying one, he isnt stunning at anything.
He has the potential to eventually become a recognised respected prelim fighter, maybe wheel him out on the under-card when the UFC comes to Dublin, Belfast, Glasgow, Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham or Londonistan.
Not a bad standard by any means but its far from being a "Star" in the true sense of the word.
Perhaps he can turn it around ?
Perhaps he is made of tougher stuff than he appears to be, perhaps he comes through this Rodriguez test, makes improvements, genuinely humbles himself, consolidates & adopts Arnold Allens down to earth, Soldier/Workman attitude n goes about his career quietly & lets his performances do his talking for him, which is the traditional way on these Celtic Isles.
If yer from here you kno we dont tolerate Prima Donnas unless they have earned their position beyond question, & then we only tolerate em long enough for us to chew em up n spit em out on their way down.
Gary has put the cart before the horse n asked us to jump on board n take a ride with him.
We have told him to F O.

@LB-hp1lg
He was fishing, giggling nervously & over reaching in everything that he said.
Where was this boxing vs Josh Emmett?
Your vision is clouded by his result vs Volk, who was coming off a brutal KO loss vs the LW champ who he fought with no camp, just a few weeks prior.
Max Hollowway on a full camp, the hardest hitting most confident version of Max Holloway we have ever seen, is among the toughest possible p4p fights in the history of the UFC.
Prime BJ, Prime McG, Prime Aldo, Prime Silva, Prime Jones.
Max is up there with em & Toporia is about to find out, on Oct 26th.

Man, Drackar Klose v Jeremy Stephens is 2 of a kind going at it, 2 firey aggressive boys.
Stephens should have too much experience for him but how much do ya need ? Drakar Klose is no newbie either.
Arlovski V Sherman. For a footballer Sherman is a fantastic fighter but its gonna take more than a footballer to beat Arlovski, hes old, hes beatable but hes still Arlovski who has never been at any other level other than top 10 in the Worls since the turn of the century.
Whittcker v Gastelum, its gonna be spicy n Im expecting a finish, both guys have shown signs of their punch resistence fading, its could be a question of who lands first or who is less faded, one way or another it should be exciting, I rekon Whittacter is the fresher of the two, mentally & physically & he looks at lot bigger at the weight than Gastelum who probably should be fighting at 170.

VOLK !!!
Yer basing yer confidence on VOLK !!!???
Volk took a fight with the LW Champion on 10 days notice & got BRUTALLY KTFO a matter of mere weeks before he faced Toporia.
He is the very DEFINITION of a SHOT FIGHTER!
The VERY BEST, most CONFIDENT, HARDEST HITTING version of Max Holloway we have ever seen, on a full camp, is a VERY different prospect to fighting a money hungry, unprofessional, barely sober, weight drained, shot to pieces, barely medically cleared, clearly winging it Volkanovski.
Max is about to FORCE FEED you all an ALL TIME GREAT sized REALITY CHECK.

They go from one extreme to another, totally respectful or totally idiotic.
I'd like it somewhere in between.
I hate the women face offs, they mean mug like they're gonna kill each other then hug, kiss n exchange recipes for baking cakes.
But at least they're women, they can be forgiven, what cant be forgiven is the men getting in each other's face then trying to act all friendly immediately after it like its a big joke.
Unforgivable, keep that same energy, if a man gets in yer face get him outa there, whatever way you think best in the moment. If you get in someones face, you better stay there n make it meaningful, dont be trying to act like its just a game coz you kno yer reasonably safe with cameras n witnesses there etc, thats Spice Boy stuff n it has no place in mens sports.

@sjones8772
You have been TOLD that his strikes are significant & now you are parroting what you have been TOLD, to me.
Ive asked you for an example of this supposed significance & you have failed to deliver.
Effectively, his style is that of a journeyman who has potential, theoretical potential, his record, mostly in prelim fights, tells no lies though, he has had his opportunity to make the step up to the next level, skillwise, & he added NOTHING to his skillset, unless you count those pathetic windmill arm punches vs Dricus as an addition?!
Stricklands style is effective at getting him to the final bell n maybe winning a points decision. As a man that isn't a bad thing, but as a pro fighter among pro fighters, he is an also-ran.
It wasn't his style, that got him a title shot, it wasn't who he beat either, a measly two fight win streak vs unranked guys nobody had heard off, it was his mouth & his ability to make schoolboys giggle on Twitter, with the stoopidity that he spews.

He doesn't rest on his laurels, he's adding to n tweaking his style from fight to fight, a VERY dangerous & excellent trait to have. Like early McG, it makes him very difficult for an opponent to prepare for.
Also like McG, he needs to manage his energy systems better. He is a very talented MMA boxer, he's taking bits n pieces from various boxers & MMAsts n made em his own. Like Lomachenko is an eclectic amalgamation of guys like Roberto Duran, Roy Jones & Mike Tyson, Ruffy is also an amalgamation of guys like Cub Swanson, McG, Anderson Silva, with shades of Canelo in his boxing.
He is very talented but he is going to have to learn how to go through his power gears better & learn to switch it up from power to speed to volume & back to power again.
He should start looking at boxers like Leo Santa Cruz, Marco Antonio Barrera & Julio Cesar Chavez, less spectacular boxers but excellent at managing their energy.
Sometimes you gotta dig in for the long haul & you need that stamina base so you can then go through your power gears, which he clearly has.
He has a lotta potential & that Fighting Nerds team has a very talented crop of fighters at the moment, its quite possible they could hold every title from FW to MW all at once & for a few years in a row.

Tuivasa v Pavlovich is a main event in its own right, not far off being PPV worthy, its not going the distance n somebody is either getting face planted or they are getting saved from brain damage by the ref.
Dos Anjos v Barberena, nobody would complain if that was the 5 rd main event on a Fight Night card, say in Utah.
Hermanson v Dolidze is the 5rd main event at a Fight Night in Europe, probably Germany or Sweden
Guida v Holtzman is main card worthy
Johnson v Diakaize is main card worthy, it would headline & sell out an arena in Manchester for a Fight Night, its a fight that could be SPECTACULAR, if it doesnt stank !
And lets not forget, the Peoples Champion, UFC Cult Hero, The Elk, The Damage, Thee one & only Darren Elkins is fighting too !
This is one of the best cards of the year lads !

@amhawk8742
He arguably didnt lose to Till, it was a hometown decision in which Wonderboy done all the attacking n took little or no damage.
However, back to your points about Holland.
What he done to Jacare was more about where Jacare was in his career at that point than it was about Holland landing anything special on him.
We have seen strikes from guard many, many times but rarely has it ever caused the end to a fight, its a low percentage position to be striking from.
But as I remember it Holland swung his legs similar to a guy doing a pendulum sweep from guard n thats where he got the power in his punch from, it was legit skill, it was original & therefore it was special, I stand corrected.
If I were asked my opinion on Hollands attributes Id say that he is game, he is unorthodox & he had under rated power.
At this time tho as a fighter I dont think he is worthy of praise. Im not his coach & what I see as a fan is a fighter who has a whole hell of a lotta work to do on his fighting skills instead of making weak bitch like excuses like "Hes a grappler & Im a striker, thats why I lost"
If or when he gets there I'll happily pay the man his due but until then, I'll continue to pay the man his due.
I dont think he is anywhere next or near Wonderboys level, his only hope is that wonderboy is dead at the weight & has outgrown the division or that Wonderboy is on the slide n can lo longer handle the rough n tumble of being a pro MIXED MARTIAL ARTIST, not just a striker, AHEM !
