Collins was the man that McGregor trained with when he first broke into the UFC. Pascall is Steve Collins Brother, & his pedigree as a coach dates back to being in the Petronellis gym with Marvin Hagler & also training with Olympic Gold medallist & former youngest ever World Heavyweight Champ Floyd Patterson who's own pedigree as a coach goes back to Cus'Damatto, who famously brought us Mike Tyson. Pascall has also worked with Freddie Roach whos pedigree goes back to the great Eddie Futch. When it comes to boxing, Jonny has a lotta heritage & World Championship know how in his corner.

  14. Modern era HW's? Mike Tyson never competed in MMA, he was/is a boxer. Its a different sport, as Ngannu found out, the hard way. Tony Tucker, Larry Holmes & Frank Bruno are equally as tall as Ngannu & Mike Tyson disposed of them. You cant carry MMA weight/bulk into a World Championship Boxing Ring vs a mobile HW who weighs around 220lbs like Tyson, Usyk, Holyfield, Ali, Frazier etc because if you cant get them outa there quick, their superior stamina & strength endurance will catch up to you. Boxing is NOT MMA, MMA striking is NOT boxing, they are complete different sciences. If you needed surgery done on yer brain or yer heart you wouldn't let a paramedic do it would you? No you would get a specialist, a surgeon. Boxers are surgeons, MMAsts are paramedics.

  38. You get 5 mins to end a fight. At most you get 5 banks of 5 min opportunities. Sometimes injuries happen & you have to go into damage limitation mode & still try to win the fight, via the safety net, the social security if you like, points system. Theres no doubt Sandhagen got injured, just like there is no doubt he spectacularly finished top 5 fighters like Edgar, Moraes, Yadong & he didnt wimp out against former Champs Yan & Dillashaw. Theres no easy fights in the UFC, theres DEFINITELY no easy fights inside the top 10 in the UFC where everyone you fight is either a contender, a former champ or someone who is about to take a major scalp n become a contender. Therefore what he did vs Font, same as McGregor did vs Holloway, is that he adjusted his tactics, overcame his injury & won ugly. Its a part of what makes MMA so great, theres 1,000 ways to end the fight in 5 mins & perhaps from a martial arts perspective whats even more admirable is that there are 1,000 ways to survive, to stay alive, until help arrives. Sandhagen is one of the very best out there.

Even in his first title reign, he did absolutely nothing to Romero, Cannonier, Vetorri or Whittacker 2. Its not like he was Anderson Silva or Jon Jones & leaving nobody in any doubt who was the champ. This is the USADA era, Superman no longer exists. Anyone in the top 10 should be capable of doing what Strickland did, otherwise whats the point of having a ranking system ? Its a competitive division because it has no clear Champion at this time, nobody has separated themselves from the pack, so I agree that his reign wont be long, but I also suspect he will be back to fight for a title again possibly even more than once due to the state of the division. Moving up n down weights to fight Machachev, then Rodriguez, looked to me like they wanted him weakened so that Yair could be champ. It didn't work first time around, but it worked 2nd time around like a charm. The money he was offered was obviously too good to turn down vs Machachev on short notice. Id a feeling they wanted rid of him as champ & it looks like it now it has played out.

How good he is at it remains to be seen but as you noticed he has tightened up a lotta loopholes already & he looked very good vs Anthony Smith from a coaches perspective. MMA aint boxing tho, some principles cross over but the stance is different in MMA & your defensive consciousness has to be much broader. Jonnys looking good tho, its a brick by brick process but they have rebuilt him in SBG & they have started at his foundations. Add solid fundamentals to his wild X Factor & you have a prime Jon Jones sized talent.

He has done what was asked of him by stepping up & taking a short notice fight vs Imavov & then he fought Abus Magomedov who was unranked, so that looked like another favour he did the company. Like it or not, the UFC repays those favours. As such, splits either way vs quality opponents like Hermasson, Cannonier, Dricus, Costa & the Adesyana upset & its publicity more than qualify him for a quick route back to a title shot, with "them", & most of the reasonable fans. I say that as a recent challenger & former champ, two top 5 wins in a row puts him right back in there, regardless if anyone likes his cautious/frustrating style or not. Not every champ is spectacular, not every MMAst is as magical as Silva once was. He has now proven he can do 15 championship rounds in reasonable comfort, you cant ignore the level of toughness & talent it takes to do that, if you respect the sport that is.

As for Champs, they are champions of the WORLD & all that is in it, including ALL BMFs, so by definition the Champ is already THEE BMF & it isnt up for debate. However, the context of the Belt was created in was under Nates definition of it, that was who is the most "Gangster" not who is the most professional, the most protected, who has had their record padded by the politicians to make sure they are champ, or who can sell the most Jake Paul Tshitrs or bottles of fizzy sugar water. The BMF Title is for those like Nate who fight because they are actual MARTIAL ARTISTS & Sportsmen who want to compete to find out who is the best between them & another opponent, like G's & the fighters I named fit that bill.

  129. Both Illia & his brother have a good understanding of boxing, as in the sweet science & unusually for East/Europeans their style is more American pro than amateurish. However, picture perfect boxing isnt as effective as boxing that has been modified to suit MMA & as such, in terms of pure boxing, the sweet science, Id say that Poirier is the best we have seen so far. He really immersed himself in boxing since moving up to LW & developed it to suit his needs. By comparison Illia is still painting by numbers, but with that said, home runs count, even if he is prone to following an opponent instead of cutting him off, corralling him n setting him up. Perhaps Charles is gonna explain it to him?

Vs Tyson he fought the EXACT fight Holmes talked about fighting vs Tyson, & Douglas looked better than a prime Larry in doing it. He was on a six fight winning streak after losing his 1st world title challenge & in that streak he beat Berbick, who Tyson took the WBC from & he beat McCall who became WBC Champ by KO'in Lennox Lewis. JP has no idea who he is talking about. Douglas was a legit contender. In his career he is 4-1 vs World Champions, Holyfield being the only one to beat him. He also doesn't realise that even though Buster fought the best fight of his life vs Tyson, Mike fought the worst fight of his life up until that point in time, but he still put Douglas on tha canvas for 14? secs. Mike didnt make excuses but those that know would forgive him for mentally switching off at that point n losing his concentration when the fight restarted.

OK Max had an epic, legendary win over Gathje in a fight that wouldnt have happened but for the BMF title but Gathje or Porier shouldnt have been fighting for it. Its a belt for veterans with something left in the tank but not enough to make a push for the title. Guys who have just about done everything EXCEPT fight for or win a World Title in their last 10 or so fights. After beating Gathje, who beat Porier who is now fighting for the title, then the only logical or fair progression for Max at 155 is to fight for the title, after Machachev vs Porier. Other than that, is he is still fit n healthy at 145 then he should be next for Toporia, which he was anyway before any BMF fight, despite Princess Volks romantic demands that Toporia wait faithfully for her to return.

  234. Obviously, due to his age & inactivity, Mike hasn't still "Got It", but I think he is showing us that he still has enough of "It" to beat a pretender, if not humiliate one. If Mike can still be "Iron Mike" for even 30 secs per 3 min round theres a host of top 10 contenders who will struggle to beat him. Given that this "Fight" is 2 mins per rd in 14 oz gloves I think he will be more than OK vs the pampered Disney Kid.

Boxers train in sparring gloves, not boxing gloves & typically a pro will train for at least 8 weeks for a 10 rd fight. Before they are pro they train all year as amateurs, wearing sparring gloves, not boxing gloves. Do the math. Tyson has been using 14 oz gloves since he was 13 yr old, I sincerely hope you aren't trying to say that JP is more adept at punching at not only a top-class professional level in 14 oz gloves than MT is, but that MT was the undisputed HW Champion at 6 years younger than JP is right now even though he can't deliver the quality of punch that JP can in a 14 oz glove?!! If that is what you meant, then I got it in one, while it was flying, not while it was dying. 😏

  237. Whats the puzzle here? Its an undisputed title, ranking system with a top 4 exists. This isn't boxing with competing titles, 6 individual portions at present are recognised: WBA, WBC, WBO, IBF, Lineal & Ring Magazine. In that system you can have 6 men making a legitimate claim to be the World Champ, hence confusion as to who might be the next challenger & for what title. UFC Title = 1 Champ, Top 4 = 4 contenders capable of legitimately challenging the champ on any given night. There is no question of merit, anyone inside the top 4 or even top 5 is a legitimate contender, the only question is logistics, as in who is fit, who can get a travel visa etc, but every title in the UFC has at least 4 legitimate contenders on any given day of the week. No confusion.

People are forgetting just how much work went into making Mike Tyson Iron Mike. The man is a legitimate all time great. When he was Champ, they were looking back 20 & 30 years to Ali & Marciano trying to find a fighter capable of beating him, now he is almost 60 that are putting him in with kids 30* years younger than him.
