Modern era HW's?
Mike Tyson never competed in MMA, he was/is a boxer.
Its a different sport, as Ngannu found out, the hard way.
Tony Tucker, Larry Holmes & Frank Bruno are equally as tall as Ngannu & Mike Tyson disposed of them.
You cant carry MMA weight/bulk into a World Championship Boxing Ring vs a mobile HW who weighs around 220lbs like Tyson, Usyk, Holyfield, Ali, Frazier etc because if you cant get them outa there quick, their superior stamina & strength endurance will catch up to you.
Boxing is NOT MMA, MMA striking is NOT boxing, they are complete different sciences.
If you needed surgery done on yer brain or yer heart you wouldn't let a paramedic do it would you? No you would get a specialist, a surgeon.
Boxers are surgeons, MMAsts are paramedics.

You get 5 mins to end a fight. At most you get 5 banks of 5 min opportunities. Sometimes injuries happen & you have to go into damage limitation mode & still try to win the fight, via the safety net, the social security if you like, points system.
Theres no doubt Sandhagen got injured, just like there is no doubt he spectacularly finished top 5 fighters like Edgar, Moraes, Yadong & he didnt wimp out against former Champs Yan & Dillashaw. Theres no easy fights in the UFC, theres DEFINITELY no easy fights inside the top 10 in the UFC where everyone you fight is either a contender, a former champ or someone who is about to take a major scalp n become a contender.
Therefore what he did vs Font, same as McGregor did vs Holloway, is that he adjusted his tactics, overcame his injury & won ugly.
Its a part of what makes MMA so great, theres 1,000 ways to end the fight in 5 mins & perhaps from a martial arts perspective whats even more admirable is that there are 1,000 ways to survive, to stay alive, until help arrives.
Sandhagen is one of the very best out there.

Since when did being a champ who lost his title in his first defense, in a fight that wasnt even close, guarantee you a rematch ?
Even in his first title reign, he did absolutely nothing to Romero, Cannonier, Vetorri or Whittacker 2.
Its not like he was Anderson Silva or Jon Jones & leaving nobody in any doubt who was the champ.
This is the USADA era, Superman no longer exists. Anyone in the top 10 should be capable of doing what Strickland did, otherwise whats the point of having a ranking system ?
This is a GLOBAL sport, it isnt a local amateur tournament where this one local kid has the edge on all the others. Its talented fighters from all over the world who are well prepared & wanna play King of the Hill.
The sport needs to move on from the Cash Cow, fight fixing, protecting our investment model n let the sport breathe n develop. Pimp the title, not the champ.
Strickland didnt win by a lucky punch, he won because him & his team seen Vetorri do 8 comfortable rds with Adesanya without taking a backward step, they seen Whittacker make adjustments in their second fight & display that a well rounded MMAst could beat him & they seen a raw novice MMAst Periera walk him down for 4.5 rds & get him outa there.
Adesanya has been EXPOSED.
Time & Again.

He has done what was asked of him by stepping up & taking a short notice fight vs Imavov & then he fought Abus Magomedov who was unranked, so that looked like another favour he did the company. Like it or not, the UFC repays those favours.
As such, splits either way vs quality opponents like Hermasson, Cannonier, Dricus, Costa & the Adesyana upset & its publicity more than qualify him for a quick route back to a title shot, with "them", & most of the reasonable fans.
I say that as a recent challenger & former champ, two top 5 wins in a row puts him right back in there, regardless if anyone likes his cautious/frustrating style or not.
Not every champ is spectacular, not every MMAst is as magical as Silva once was.
He has now proven he can do 15 championship rounds in reasonable comfort, you cant ignore the level of toughness & talent it takes to do that, if you respect the sport that is.

@DuntyM14
What difference does it make what he walks around at, he weighs in at 155, as per the contract, that is the agreed upon weight, not the imaginary weight you are speculating about.
Ive been reliably informed that Katona is now a bantamweight so I take the point that its a large weight discrepancy between them, however, chandler did try to belittle him on TUF so there is man sized BEEF between them, or at least there should be if Katona even has just a single ounce of pride, couple that with the fact that he has fought professionally, in the UFC no less, as a FW & you are bound to agree that beefing up 10 extra lbs is very little to expect from a man who had his masculinity challenged by another fighter in front of millions of viewers.

Boxing has no president.
You are probably describing the head of a boxing governing body. An un-elected self appointed "governing body", who only have as much credibility as gullible clowns give them, hence the likes of Andre Ward publicly asking them only a few months ago, "What do you do for your 3%?"
You obviously have a lot to learn about organised crime, cartels, monopolies, professional boxing & life in general if you actually believe "athletes" can make whatever fights they want to happen, which is why every youtuber is doing what KSI & the Paul brothers are doing, right ?
No corporate sponsorship going on in the background at all, its just the "athletes" doing their thing, right ?

@windytv7511
Yer mistaken somewhere along the line, because I dont think they messed up anywhere.
Theres no easy fights in the UFC, unless they're scripted like Cerrone vs McGregor.
That aside, Volk & the rest of them are grown men & if they think the money is too good to turn down its their call to make, they're professionals after all, prize fighters, not trophy hunting amateurs.
If yer talking star power, Strickland is a journeyman, a rags to riches tale, hes not cut out to stay at the top, unless all of a sudden he starts to improve, which he hasn't done since before he fought Usman, its been the same ol'Al from day one with him, he has just started mouthing off more & louder than before.
Gynosanya talks a good show, fails to deliver on the talk tho. Hes definitely talented & would be appreciated more for his talent if he didnt over sell himself but he is what he is n personally I dont think he has genuine star power but who really does since Anderson Silva lost to Weidman ?
Jon Jones is all over the place, hes definitely a star & is thee biggest name in the sport still, thats the sport now, not necessarily the business, Im not an accountant & dont pretend to be.
Aspinal is a bit of a drama queen but if or when he quits it with the GSP/beauty queen celebrations n starts keeping it real he has the potential to be great in the cage n do a solid job outside it.
Aspinal vs Jones, Stipe or Gane is well worthy of headlining 300.
O'Malley has a bit of Paazazz about him & theres no reason his generation shouldnt appreciate him, If he gets past Chito he has some very serious challenges ahead of him in Merab & Sandhagen.
Volk similar to Strickland is a common man tale & one that looks to have run its course.
Time for the UFC to get back to its roots n sell itself on making the best fighters fight with no mus, no fus, just getting it on.
Its the title thats the selling point in any combat sport, devalue it & disrespect it & the sport goes into the gutter n ya get the likes of McGregor attacking busses, insulting religions & making death threats to opponents.
What are ya gonna do for an encore ?

@ThanosDidTheRightThing
Who said anything about better?
But while we are on the subject, during Tysons era, the best, the toughest, the most talented & most dangerous fighters were all in boxing, there was no MMA, Boxing was THEE PREMIER combat sport, today its a shadow of what it once was, its a second division sport for posers to make easy money. Boxing today is Saturday Matinee material, pantomime violence for old grannies entertainment, what WWE/pro wrasslin used to be, good clean fun for old ladies & young children.
Fury is no better than his father was, go look what Henry Akanwande did to him.
Joshua is no better than Herbie Hide, go look what Bowe done to him, Joyce is no better than Gary Mason.
Wilder beat WHO?
In the lighter divisions there are one of two technically good boxers who MAYBE could compete in any era, but we will never know since the talent pool is so diluted we have never seen them truly tested like Sugar Ray Leonard was tested vs Benetiz & Vs Hearns, we just get these posers moving through the weights picking up vacant titles that mean NOTHING.
Primo Carnera was as big as the biggest HWs today, there has always been big HWs, just today the sport is so soft more of them can prosper.
Do you honestly think Andy Ruiz would have beaten Ray Mercer, Tommy Morrison or Razor Ruddock?
You're dreaming.
Its a soft era & boxing is going down the pan unless they ban MMA, otherwise it will be just another amateur feeder sport for MMA.

@taylorgordon2696
Like Roy Jones, Tyson is a victim of his own success, he made good fighters look like they were nobodies.
Look what he did to Bruno, TWICE, then go look at Lennox Lewis having absolutely life n death with Bruno.
Oliver McCall was a sparing partner for Tyson, he KOd Lewis.
Tyson was a monster up until 1996 when Holyfield broke him in what was an EPIC, legendary fight & only Holyfield could have broken him in 1996, not Lewis, he didnt have the grit or the courage, not Bowe, he was spent after the Hoylfield trilogy, not Mercer, Moorer or anyone else, they just weren't in his league, just like Berbick wasn't.
Lewis cowered n his from him (& every other credible threat) until Tyson was 16 years removed from his first world title, had been beaten by Holyfield twice, & had been banned twice & had been in & outa prison twice. If you think Lewis could have lasted 5 rds with Tyson any time between 1985 & 1997, yer dreaming.
Mike Tyson was the REAL DEAL, until he met the REAL DEAL.
Thats 10 full years he was the GLOBALLY RECOGNISED, GLOBALLY UNDISPUTED BADDEST MAN ON THE PLANET, so bad in fact that had to create that phrase to describe him.
Who else has reigned 10 full years as the UNDISPUTED UNHOLY TERROR of the HW division?

Whats the puzzle here?
Its an undisputed title, ranking system with a top 4 exists.
This isn't boxing with competing titles, 6 individual portions at present are recognised: WBA, WBC, WBO, IBF, Lineal & Ring Magazine. In that system you can have 6 men making a legitimate claim to be the World Champ, hence confusion as to who might be the next challenger & for what title.
UFC Title = 1 Champ, Top 4 = 4 contenders capable of legitimately challenging the champ on any given night.
There is no question of merit, anyone inside the top 4 or even top 5 is a legitimate contender, the only question is logistics, as in who is fit, who can get a travel visa etc, but every title in the UFC has at least 4 legitimate contenders on any given day of the week.
No confusion.

@bryanlace8302
Bernard Hopkins was a few days shy of his 50th birthday when he lost his world title. For 10 years before that Hopkins made a career outa fighting for only 30 secs per rd.
Mike Tyson is NOT fighting for a world title, he is NOT fighting a World Champion, he isnt even fighting a ranked opponent!
Age means nothing if you are in shape & have the experience to be a ring general & dictate the pace of the fight.
Like Hopkins, Mike Tyson lived in the gym. Not only that, their every waking moment & even their sleeping dreams all revolved around boxing & how to become better.
Success is no accident, excellence is no accident.
From Mike Tyson was 13 until he was 26 Boxing was in every single breath he took, it was beyond a religion to him, it was life itself, which is why he was so successful so young. He is a walking, talking, living, breathing boxing encyclopedia & most importantly, he is in shape!
Mike Tyson has forgotten more about boxing at the highest level than JP will ever learn. Mike Tyson has more boxing knowledge, more practical experience, more ringcraft & Championship know how than all of Jake Pauls coaches combined & all their coaches combined.
People are forgetting just how much work went into making Mike Tyson Iron Mike.
The man is a legitimate all time great.
When he was Champ, they were looking back 20 & 30 years to Ali & Marciano trying to find a fighter capable of beating him, now he is almost 60 that are putting him in with kids 30* years younger than him.
They have done it to nobody else, the man is one of a kind & JP is in serious danger of being humiliated, IF it isnt scripted.

Fury must put on an absolute boxer/puncher masterclass of staying safe & setting Francis up for the one single BIG punch to get him outa there
He has to display the set ups he has for every big single punch in the book, the cross, the over hand, the lead hook & uppercut, the rear hook & uppercut, & all the various body shots until Francis goes.
If he fails to he should be sued for every penny he has got for committing fraud & so should the promoters.
This has to be an absolute immaculate Ali vs Cleavland Williams, Sugar Ray Leonard vs Dave Boy Green or Roy Jones vs Sugar Boy Malinga or Roy Jones vs Clinton Woods level & standard of boxing otherwise Fury should become the most hated man on the planet.
Francis is an absolute boxing novice going against a reigning world champ who has proclaimed himself the greatest of all time, so put up or shut up Fury, heres yer opportunity to prove yerself.
I suspect we are gonna see Fury, timidly tippy tap, clown, circle n jab until Francis gasses out or the final bell rings, n if thats all he does Fury should be considered a blotch on the sport of boxing for all time.

BMF shouldnt be for title contenders, it should be for battle proven veterans who never quite made it to the top of the top level.
Jim Miller, Darren Elkins, Matt Brown, Edson Barbosa, Jack Hermason, Neil Magny, etc etc.
BMF in every weight class, BMF super fights between BMF Title holders from different divisions, but not every week, once in a while.
Gathje is a disgrace defending a BMF title vs a Featherweight when he is the legit #1 Contender at LW.
UFC has become a childrens entertainment Circus show, where even Champions are now dressing up in clown suits at press conferences.
