  1. I liked everything except the Town of York bit. Jorvik was established by the Danes and that name was eventually bastardized into York over time.

  2. You are correct. Although it was just a village by the time the Danes came. They actually turned it into a "City" again and named is Jorvik. So saying the Danes conquered York or established York, would be incorrect. They established Jorvik, and York is simply the Anglo-Saxon version of the name.
