A US Iowa Class battleship from the 1940s could displace 60,000 tons. A modern Aegis Class destroyers displace about 11,000 tons. It should not surprise anyone if 1 modern US Arleigh Burke destroyer is all it would take to annihilate the entirety of the Japanese navy in the 1940s or possibly the entirety of the US Pacific Fleet in the 1940s. (Would Aegis be a better categorization? I know that's the weapons system but it just sounds better imho.) So counting ships, or counting tonnage, is all fun and cute for video game enthusiasts but doctrines, experience and quality of ships can be decades apart and would be the primary deciding factor in determining true power. A modern US Marine with a fully automatic rifle is about a 1,000 times more deadly than his 1780s counterpart, ooh, I said something tremendous that no one could have guessed... said no one... ever.

@jetli740 The entirety of China's claim to fame is that their navy is 'bigger' which is what this video is about. I was pointing out that having a 10,000 extra rowboats or twice as much tonnage is meaningless, when it come to determining naval capacity. And as for anti-ship missile, the US has the Japanese island chain and Taiwan. China's future New Fleet will be able to see China's current fleet by looking down in the water, if China ever gets the silly notion that it is capable of taking on US assets. Propaganda doesn't sink navies, American ships and missiles do.
