The same goes for China. The reality is that even though the Chinese are allowed to have more kids now, when you live in an apartment that would be considered inhumane for an American inmate, there's not much in the way of room, for a family to grow. And they've been building jail cells for their 'workers' in China, and there are no schools or recreation, for the next generation. Factory slaves aren't even allowed to jump out of the window to commit suicide because there are nets underneath, to make sure the production never stops.

@Muzakman37 I've seen videos of the places that Chinese factory workers live in and those are not humane conditions, so maybe we have different definitions for 'standard-sized.' And in a modern society, it is the blue-collar workers who have children and not lawyers, doctors and accountants. So, do factory workers have enough living space to start and maintain a family? Can they afford to feed their children on the pay they receive? Or is the middle class consuming all the resources and apartments? Does China have a policy of limiting square meters per family members? In Germany you can't live in a large government apartment if you don't have children. Large apartments are for large families, and small apartments are for single people or couples without children. My guess is that in China, a large family lives in poverty and apartments that are chicken coops, while the middle class live comfortably with only one child. China punishes people for having children and does not provide incentives to have more children, only hardships.

@Muzakman37 Incentivizing is fine but I have not heard a peep about policies of larger apartments for larger families. No mention of extra money in the paychecks of people who have more children. No benefits for having more kids, like longer vacations, more sick days, etc... Having 5 kids means you have to go see the doctor for your kids 5 times more than the couple that has 1 child. The mom has to stay at home to care for the kids, rather than the mother of a single child who can go to work while the kid is at daycare. Until China addresses such issues, the population will continue to plummet. Nobody wants to live a life of poverty because Xi ordered it so.
