  1. This absolves the French people of any culpability of the men they elected, who then appointed these commanders. By that thought process it absolves the people of the Confederacy of all blame by claiming that it was their Political and Military leaders who were responsible. And of course it absolves all other populations of electing their respective monsters such as Hitler, Pol Pot, Mao, (insert your psychopath of the 20th and 21st century here)
